The "plastic" coating is made from the shells of shrimp.  In the future, if this gets commercialized, you'll have to worry about the finish of your car (besides leather interiors) in order to be 100% vegan.  Of course, how many of us have actually analyzed what our cars are made of.  I'd bet no car exists that doesn't have some animal products in it.  :D

The rubber in tires is made from animal products.....I don't think anybody's car is really vegan.  Especially mine, since my seats are leather....occasionally I'll pet them and apologize for their horrid and unnecessary death.
