YOGAers of Vegweb

Let me add yoga to the list of sports of vegweb.

I'm definitely not the athletic type. I basically just walk around everywhere or dance around everywhere, haha. However, I just found out that Yoga is definitely my kind of workout. I've started to do Astanda Yoga two months ago, and it's been a great discovery for me. I like the fact that Yoga is asking me all of my concentration for the entire hour or hour and a half. When I went to the gym, I always felt that I had something to prove to everybody, whereas in my yoga classes, you definitely have got to leave your ego at home and just have room to let yourself learn. I'm not a spiritual person, so I don't really get the whole, opening my chakras, yet. But as for an athletic activity, I absolutely love it.

Any other yoga-ers here?

DISCLAIMER: The only yoga I have ever done is Wii Fit yoga.

That being said, I love yoga! I can definitely feel a difference in body when I'm doing it vs. not. My back definitely feels better. It is relaxing.

I have been doing yoga for two years. I love it. I go to a class at a gym near me when I either a)have no space at my house or b)feel like being in their environment.

If I'm feeling fitnessy I'll do 40 minutes of yoga, run for an hour, then do some more yoga. That never happens any more though...
When I started out I was doing it 3x a week, then for a while last year I did it every day. Now...I have slacked off a lot and do it 2x week. Haha. I've gotta step up up my yoga game!

I've started at two times a week, now I'm up to three. (I'm taking classes). But I have a friend who will be giving classes at different time than I usually do it. So I can't wait. Plus, it's going to be in French, so I won't be thinking, "what is my glut?" (or something) while I'm downward facing dog. ;D

I quit a year ago when I couldn't afford the classes after my divorce and when I started working 5 days a week instead of 3.  I'd love to get back into it.  I've got a couple of good vids.  I'm great with backbends but horrible with forward folds.  I worked for four years on my forward folds and I guess I just don't have the right anatomy to do it well.

I have tiny legs, so the forwards folds are not that hard for me. What I have trouble with is the bindings, you know grabbing my hands in my back. I never could do that. My shoulders are tight.

I rock at forward folds and binds...but backwards, NO...I do have metal bars in my back though that are to blame because I used to do gymnastics and back then I could do it fine. hmph.

I wish I could run. I should try harder to run actually. I always thought I had bad knees, so that's why I put off running. However, sometimes, I will run instead of walk to work, because it is less tiring, for some reasons.

And yes, I am such a poser.

Yeah, part of the reason I have slacked off of excersicing in general is because my knees have been being weird. They just feel...so...tired all the time. I don't get it. I've never ever had funky joints or any pain other than my back before. I also don't have a lot of muscle because I was so inactive/depressed from june-jan last year, so I thought maybe I just don't have a lot of support in the tendons there and that's why it hurts.
Running is waaay less tiring to me than walking. My feet always hurt after walking long distances vs. running them, for some reason.

Maybe it's because there is less weight on the feet when you run? And I like to run really fast, like something's coming after me, I think it's like my equivalent of screaming really loud at the top of my lungs. Just destresses me. But of course, I can only do this for like 20 seconds.  ;D

does anyone do hot yoga?  one of my friends loves it.  I don't think I could concentrate if the room got that hot!

I never tried hot yoga. But one of my teachers really cranks up the temperature in the room before we start. I read a book about Astanga yoga recently, and apparently, that's normal, that way you sweat more (getting rid of impurities in the body) and you're more flexible. At first, I thought the heat was too much, especially in the middle of a very hot and humid summer, but I got used to it actually. The only problem, is that by sweating more, I'm always slipping, and it's hard to keep a pose that way.

I’ve been doing yoga off and on for a number of years.  I’ve never taken a class, I have a few videos and books.  I just very recently started back up again.  I practice in the evening for however long feels right.  It really helps with so many things.  On thing it has helped with, is a mysterious pain I’ve had in my stomach for the past couple years.  Yoga makes it go away.  It is also a tremendous help for my dancing.

I absolutely love yoga and have been doing it for years.  I tend to slack off due to other stuff and then regret it because when I do it I feel so much better with everything...I am the same way with meditation...when I make the time to do it I feel awesome.
