Who else on Veg Web conquers the elements and keeps riding through the winter!
Been a fun day today other than the wind. 30*F with 40mph winds and light snow.
Rode at least 16 miles today :D
I do. -1*F here currently, with snow. We had a warm spell today.
Yes, but only because I don't have a car and have to. I hate the cold more than anything.
I've just been wondering about this! I was thinking of riding my bike to the gym today--it's currently 16 degrees below out!!! My main concern is more the slipping on the ice than the cold factor, though.
How safe/steady have you bold souls found winter biking to be?
I think its safe if you know what you're doing.
I'm running on 25c tires with the tread mostlyl worn out and I've only slipped a few times but am alright with controlling it..
If you really want to be safe and have the clearance, studded tires rule.
Currently 8*F and 34mph winds
well, it only rains here, no snow... but in that case i just ride slowly. what kind of bike do you have... road?
I stopped biking last year when it was like piled up snow/ice, and would have just been unsafe. I did slip once on a turn (very slowly), but it wasn't too bad. This year hasn't been icy until now, but I just try to be really careful, as always. I have a mountain bike. I would never want to ride a road bike on snow/ice!

Yes, I have an older steel frame 10 speed road bike that I converted to a single speed thats running on a cassette...
It works pretty well.
And snow, ohh the snow. We have something like two inches of that right now
I have a pretty decent mountain bike. Maybe I'll wait until the ice clears, though! I'm a sissy when it comes to falling off my bike. :)
