question about hair.

I have long hair and am really lazy, so I only get my hair trimmed about once every 1 to 2 years. It has been about a year since I last had my hair trimmed. I am noticing little white balls on the end of each strand of hair, and the ends of my hair are breaking off, not a lot but like the last 2mm or so. I am also noticing split ends which is how I know I need a trim. But what are those little white balls? If I had a microscope I would look at them closer. Is it like protein build up or something? Am I missing a nutrient in my diet that is causing that? Maybe using the wrong shampoo?
Sounds like the split ends that aren't falling off might be balling up. That's my guess.
hey, I had that too! Kind of like fuzz? I never thought about it..b/c I thought it was FUZZ (I noticed it in my hair brush)...BUT as you can see I now have a hair cut. My hair was very long and I just trimmed it myself for 2-3 years...I love my short hair...and I was able to donate my hair..so think about a cut! It's great! ;)b
my sister is a hair stylist and she came over tonight so i asked her. she says it means you REALLY need your hair cut. i wait just as long as you to cut my hair too and it bothers her because by the time i get my hair cut, she has to cut like 5 inches off because it's just dead that far up, and my hair is pretty long.
hey i'm a hairdresser, and those white balls can be a few things
1. microscopic knots from extremely dry hair that gets rubbed to hard on your pillow, hence tying itself into knots and then breaking and leaving white tips (loose braids with leave in conditioner and a covered elastic at night can help prevent this)
2. buildup of cheap proteins and vitamins from drugstore conditioners that shellac themselves into the crevices in the cuticle of damaged hair.
i would get a cut soon, and if they reappear within weeks, upgrade your conditioner as well.
happy hair do-ings!
