probiotics

As of today, I am back on them (after about a 3 month hiatus) and this time I've done some reading up on them vs. taking them because "my acupuncturist told me to."
The bottle I got today from the co-op says to take twice a day with a meal. Great, but I've also read from several other sources (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?z=y&EAN=9781591858973&itm=2
but not just this one) that I should take them on an empty stomach.
Any body have an opinion?
Don't know about probiotics, but I've run into that same issue with other supplements before, and my solution has been to take them just before I eat my meal.
I can't remember if you're vegan or veg. I'm vegan and was looking for probiotics today for the first time and could only find milk-derived products. What brand do you use?
i have always taken them just as i was sitting down to eat.
dunno if thats right, but its alot to even get me to take pills ever! :)
I take them with breakfast and dinner (I use the brand PB8), and those are the specifics from my naturopath.

This bottle is Soloray; it say "suitable for vegetarians," but no specific note about vegan. Source Naturals produces a support formula the feeds the flora that you already have that is vegan (FOS). The one that was specifically recommended by my doc was Udo's choice Super 8; it says vegetarian, but makes no claim to be vegan.
I get irritated that most of the supplements, even at the co-op, are gelatin capped.
Thanks for the input; I'm not sure it matters that much, but since it is dealing with what's in your stomach, I figured it may be important how much other stuff was in there, too.
Thanks. In terms of whether to take probiotics before/with meals, it seems that you'd want to get them through your stomach as fast as possible and into your small intestine, so you'd take them 1/2 to 1 hour before eating. With that perspective, one of the things I was confused about was that some of the probiotics were in flavored drinks that would stimulate your digestive process.
