new vegan having blood sugar issues maybe?

I'm a new vegan.  I started january 1st.  I have noticed since I started that around dinner time i get headaches and the shakes.  After I eat sometimes i feel better and sometimes I feel much worse.  I've noticed that quinoa does tend to make me feel a lot better, maybe too much better, because I get really hyperactive.  I do usually keep the headache for a bit though.  I'm sure there is something I'm missing....I'm just not sure what it is. The woman at my herb shop went off on a rant about my o blood type, which i know is bs, and told me to buy protein powder and BE CAREFUL!  Can I get a rational answer please?

Thanks!
Shannon

Are you eating enough throughout the day? Give us an idea of the types of things you eat. It's not your blood type.

I usually eat anything from vegan pancakes to cereal and soy milk for breakfast at around 8.  I have a pretty big lunch around 11...some type of grain and veggie or soup and salad.  then I make a big dinner around 6.  Last night was quinoa stuffed tomatoes, mashed potatoes, and collard greens.  I snack a little after breakfast.  Maybe a handful of nuts of an orange.  Am I not eating enough?

Thanks,
Shannon

It sounds like you are eating well, but maybe need a snack in between lunch and dinner? Maybe just try to eat some small snacks throughout the day. If things don't improve, you should see a doctor.

I guess I should mention that I am on the small side to begin with anyway.  I don't weigh enough to donate blood because I pass out.  Tried it once...it wasn't fun.  So, you could be right about eating between lunch and dinner. That's the time that I am the busiest and it's easy to forget to eat.  It may be my calorie intake.  But, will see a doc if things don't improve.  Has this happened to anyone else in the beginning or is it just me?

No, not just you; I can't go more than 4 hours between meals without feeling weak and shaky.  I'm "on the small side" too; it's like I've already (in 10 days) burned through whatever energy reserves I might have had, and the only way to keep going is by constantly refueling.

I hope it gets easier... being constantly preoccupied with food is not fun.

;)b  Just wanted to give an update on the situation.  I took all advice into account and initially started eating a heavy snack between lunch and dinner, and was using veg protein powder 3x daily.  I wasn't getting headaches, but was feeling sick at times throughout the day....thought maybe something was wrong after all. I decided to give it a couple more days and see if it would pass.  One of the days I felt good all day...no problems.  I had forgotten the protein powder that day, but didn't relate the two initially. The next day.... used the powder...and felt crummy off and on again.  I cut that out and do just fine...as long as I don't use anything with caffeine in it.  That tends to give the same effect as the protein powder.  I've always been a little sensitive to caffeine...apparently now I'm megasensitive! LOL.  So, now eating regular meals....adding more whole grains, and adding that hearty snack mid day....I'm doing really well.  Thanks for everyone's help.
