horrified at excellerated weight gain

oh my gosh...im trying to settle down.......Im shaking with anxiety.

I gained TEN lbs in six days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is not normal...I swear i have not been "binging" Ive eat maybe 1200 cals a day. I am drinking close to 25 oz of water a day (remember fluid phobia) and from what i can tell (having been a CNA for the past 5 years) I am not retaining water in my legs....

OMG OMG OMG! You do not even know how freaked out I am right now...I almost want to bawl.

Zealia, I think your body may be conserving everything you have given it lately due to your being sick and then not eating or drinking much.  To use a diuretic now would not be a good idea in my opinion.  Especially if your pants cant even stay on.

Drink some fluids, find some yummy comfort foods and relax.  *hugs*

yeah, i decided not to use them. I don't think it would be the best way to honor my body right now.  ;)b I was thinking about making soup for dinner, but its my dads birthday and we have a tradition of eating waffles. So waffles for dinner tonight. Its a little heavy, but I should be fine. then maybe I can have soup tomarrow.

Just a thought... Do you have sensitivity to gluten? I have heard of very rapid weight gain in celliac disease patients after switching to gluten free. It happens because their intestines are finally able to absorb nutrients properly, and the body being previously starved stores everything in preparation for"lean times".

I know it's a shot in the dark, but it bears mention. If this doesn't apply, then the gain is most likely temporary.

I can't really add anything to the great advice everyone has given you, but I am glad to hear that you are feeling better. You are SO much more valuable than any number on a scale. I can see you are very much loved here. :) Anyway, feel better and just take it a day at a time. Happy birthday to your dad and enjoy those waffles! (((hugs)))

Oh!  By the way, I heard that NOT drinking water can cause you to retain water.  Something about our bodies think that we are going into some kind of a dry spell and not have access to water so it retains it for survival purposes.

You are absolutely right..if you don't drink your body is going to retain more water, same thing with food..if you don't eat properly your body is going to store fat. It will work thru the fat first, then it will start eating your muscles.

Every "little" thing you eat is going to be stored and not burned..which could be why even tho you were sick and didn't eat much, your body may have gone into starvation mode and held on to every little calorie you ate  (especially since you have an ED history, this might cause your body to "panic" quicker). I suggest you eat and drink normally, and don't worry about it.

I just thought I would update this thread...my weight gain slowed down, but still kept happening.

I'm currently at 100% of my ideal body weight, which is really something because even when I was in the hospital they were not able to get my weight up to "ideal." I have to admit, that gaining close to 20 percent of my body weight in 6 months has made me very anxious, but I'm trying to believe that it is ultimately a good thing for me. I was ranting about it the other day on my blog and a good friend pointed out that I'm not technically overweight even though I feel like I am. That was strangely a good wakeup call. This friend also encouraged me to give myself some more time at this weight to get comfortable at it, instead of automatically deciding to lose it all- which I've decided is good advice.

Ive been doing fabulous with eating healthy and not acting out almost ANY of my ED behaviors. Having so much great, vegan food on hand makes it easy to be sure to get in about three squares a day. ;)  I'm nervous that I might keep gaining weight now, but its all in prospective...It would not be the end of the world if I do....PLUS, I do have to admit, that I feel much more comfortable in my body not that I'm not SO thin. The weight gain has slowed down so much, I cant help but wonder if my body was just working really hard to get up to this level and now might stop storing so much.

PLUS I'm starting school this upcoming week and I keep reminding myself "food is fuel!" lol.... :) I really WANT to be healthy.

SO, to those of you who are trying to gain, keep it up! It gets easier. And if feels pretty good. And for those of you who were offering your kind support, thank you. ^-^

THis is SO great to hear, VHZ!
A big part of this site is people wanting to be healthy, and wanting others to be healthy, too. So this is great news! Thanks for the update.

Here's to your continued success in eating and living well, and to loving your strong, sexy self!  :-*

The scale could be broken, too. Digital scales can go crazy if you just bump them, or if they get damp, or if there's a storm in the air, or....
If your clothes are fitting, you're cool.

GT makes me retain water. Go figure.
I have used dandelion tea as a mild natural diuretic at need.

that is really awesome, vhz. i am so glad that you are getting comfortable at the weight that your body wants to be (and it sound like your body wants to be a pretty 'normal' body).

thanks for making me smile  :)

Yup - I second that statement!

And, agressive dieting can make your cells dehydrate, and when you quit, they can spring back to a healthy size - this is not weight gain, it's just your body responding to a lack of starvation.

However, I would consult a doc about the 10 pounds, because it can be a sign of kidney or other problems.

Hang in there, and eat and drink healthy - with good sized quantities.
