hey everyone, help make me hot this summer!!
I need advice, and lots of it. now that school is out, i can start eating as healthy as i did last summer and i have time to exercise. (by the way, i made straight A's again for the year... I'll be a senior next year.)
ok... so I want to get all of my vitamins from everything I eat and I want to eat less carbs considering I've lived of off cereal, bagles, and pancakes for MONTHS. I want to get back on the wagon. Tell me what to eat:
1. I'm trying to grow my hair out... what vitamins/food helps this?
2. I want my skin to glow and be protected from the sun... (same question^)
3. I want my abs back. what are some fun/not so hard to do workouts? (I DO NOT RUN)
4. How do I get all of my vitamins in a meal? Some recipes/ideas would be great.
thanks! ;)b
You might be interested in eating more raw foods, I have heard stories about people going raw to 1. help their hair grow faster 2. clear up their acne and just have a nice shine to it and to 3. lose weight.
www.goneraw.com has a lot of awesome raw recipes, and the raw recipes on vegweb are building and building thanks to the growing number of raw foodists on here too!!! like the raw chit chat, the people on that thread can help you out a lot if you're interested in it.
as for abs, i'm working on mine too!! the people over in the boot camp thread have helped me a lot to figure out what in the world to do at the gym and such, you could also try out the 30 day shred, theres a thread for that too.
raw sound delish and extremely healthy, but i do not want to loose weight. I'm at a perfect, healthy weight that I am satisfied with, just trying to build muscle and not be so lazy. I've been studying in my room all year. :-\
Situps help build your abs. I used to do them while watching tv or listening to music. Just make sure you do them on a comfortable mat or at least carpet, otherwise they're intolerable.
if you want to tone up, do some yoga! it wont necessarily build muscle, but you'll notice the muscles you have...heh.
I do a "prison cell" workout. It sounds weird and creepy, but it's just the type of workout you can do in a small space, mostly bodyweights. Here's an example:
100 squats
Bicycle crunch(the pilates move) ladder (50-40-30-20-10-5)
Pushup and squat alternating ladder: 30 pushups, 50 squats; 25 pushups, 40 squats; etc. etc.
30 leglifts
20 scissors leglifts
I do lots of yoga cause I like to stretch, but not the hardcore yoga that works. ;D
I will try sit ups though, I could listen to my ipod and get caught up in a good song and not even realize i'm working out. hah.
but can anyone answer my eating qustions?
I dont think you have to worry about specific vitamins and minerals as long as you eat a well balanced diet and listen to your body. if you're craving something healthy eat it, if youre craving something unhealthy, find out what is in it that you probably need and find a healthier version. like if you're craving chocolate, you probably need more iron, you can eat some more beans and some kale instead of chocolate.
thanks kelsi. that makes a lot of since. does chocolate have a lot of iron? i actually never crave that. i find myself ALWAYS wanting ice cream. what's a cure for that? ha.
To break the craving habit, I use negative reinforcement. This sounds really horrible, but it's actually not that bad and it works really well. I keep a rubber band around my wrist, and whenever I find myself staring blankly into the fridge or the pantry (i.e. boredom eating) I snap myself on the wrist... So far it has worked really well, really quickly.

haha. when i want ice cream i make a healthier version of raw ice cream. freeze a couple of bananas, get yourself some raw cacao powder at whole foods (its kind of expensive but it lasts a long time) unsalted cashews (raw would be even better), agave nectar blend it all up with some water, THEN add the frozen bananas. it makes for a delish ice cream. it works best if you have a high speed blender like a vitamix. mmm. or! if you want ice cream, you could have frozen treats already made, like chocolate covered bananas with nuts or fruit pops, those arent super unhealthy.
i recently posted this in another thread. but this is my favorite thing ever.

i eat it for breakfast. mmm.
how would it be without the cashews? the only nuts i will eat are peanuts and almonds.

nuts arent too neccessary. they add a richness to it though. you could also soak almonds a bit to make them a little softer and blend those in.
my prenatal vitamins made my hair grow like crazy! it got really long during my pregnancy. your parents might get scared if they find you taking them though! ;D
there's a really good self tanner made by SUN that I use sometimes. I have to wear sunscreen but also like a healthy glow, so i use this stuff. it doesn't turn you orange. i got it at the healthfood store.
pilates and core exercises are great for abs. do you have an exercise ball? there's a ton of stuff you can do on that. my abs used to look great from the ball (not any more but I'm semi-working on it).
i don't have one, but i love those. do you know how much they are?

the yoga ball? not sure.....but i dont think a whole lot. can you put a price on great abs? :)
actually chickpea, I'm on a hotness-raising regimen too. On my days off work, i'll do yoga in the mornings. once i put a new chain on my bike & give it a tune-up, i'll be riding around on it. and, well, i also just bought some excellent undergarments...heh.

We should have a hotness-increasing club. Although I'm kind of cheating by relying mostly on my month-long whitewater canoe trip to automatically lose weight... haha
great idea about bike riding. I have a fancy purple bike that has probably been lonely for about 3 years. I'll have to ask my dad to raise the seat and repair whatever needs to be done.
that could be fun....
I just tried to go for a long walk... it's toooooo hot outside. I had to turn around after 10 minutes.
ellen, that's totally acceptable ;)b whitewater rafting can be intense! We should start a club, I think.
it is the summer of seduction, after all... >:D
