Car vs. Bike
Hey Everyone!
So since gas is so expensive and my work is so close (3+ miles) I ride my bike there. Today on my way home I was biking on the side walk passing hotels and business--I started to cross a drive way when a car just speeds out and almost hits me! I swerved to miss the car and fell off my bike! The girl that was driving backed her car up to the place where you are supposed to stop--you know behind the stop sign--as opposed to the 4 feet in front of it where I fell off my bike. She kind of got out of the car to say sorry--but it was totally insincere--she just watched me drag my bike out ofthe street...blerg...people suck so bad! Oh well--I didn't get hurt, and hopefully the driver will be more careful!
Drives--watch for bikers!! :P
I ride my bike occasionally to work. I love to do it, but it is a bit scary the 2 miles I have to ride on Kirkwood Rd. There is a "bike lane" for bikes, but it is 2 ft wide, and cars come really close so it is scary. And hearing about somebody getting hit and bending the frame on their bike! I would be FURIOUS! My bike was $700, not a cheap thing, I can't afford another one, I used the last of my sign on bonus to buy that.
But I am not riding so much now, my belly isn't too big yet so that is not the problem, the problem is the intense heat! Today it is supposed to get 97 degrees. Too damn hot do do anything. And the bigger my belly gets, the worse the heat feels.
Normally I keep my air conditionar at 78. Yesterday, I wanted to save some money so I turned it up to 82. I tried to sit on the couch and relax but I was sweating and I was drining ice tea (watered down) and lots of it. I started to feel really wierd, tired, kind of sick, and a bit faint. I was drinking tons of ice water/tea and it wasn't helping. So I turned the AC back down to 78 and felt better. That sucked!
Awwww! Thanks Di!--yeah, I'm fine, just a bit of road rash on my legs and my bike is A OK! I was out this morning on a long 20 mile ride--it was fantastic :) Yep--we do have "winter big time" up here don't we? Seems like the weather just got nice and I'm already thinking about what I need for the next snow season *boo* maybe one day I'll actually live where it's warm for more than 3 months a year!!!
You should move to California!! You could ride your bike allllll year long. You know... just a thought...

haven't I ever told you I am terrified of stepping foot into Cali? I have this totally irrational fear that the moment I step foot over the border a massive quake will hit and California will break off from the US and float into the sea *shudders* I know...totally weird...
Um no, you never told me that. I've been living in California for almost 26 years now... I'm fine!! And if we float off into the sea, we'd be on an island, that's kinda cool. Even w/ how much I hate earthquakes, I'd rather have an occasional earthquake a few times a year, than have to deal w/ snow and cold weather for most of the year. Just me...

I'm sure it's lovely in Cali--I'm just...weird...I know that would never actually happen...I'm just...yeah...strange I guess! But I do love the snow--even if you can't ride a bike in it, you can have lots of fun--sledding, ice skating, building snow men, snow ball fights, cold nights with warm bodies under blankets--nothing wrong with that!!!
