30 day shred!

I know several of us are doing the 30 day shred with Jillian Michaels, so we can talk about it here. I've really liked it. I like Anita better, but I do what Natalie's doing. I'm still on level 1, and I think today is day 6. I haven't done it consecutively, because I didn't feel like doing it during my sick with cold death-phase, but I think I can do every day now. On to level 2, soon! I'm annoyed that I can't skip past Jill's speech at the beginning, but oh well!

Shreddddddddd

I like level 2 a lot.  It's hard!  But I like the walking pushups and all the rows.  Sometimes during the transitions from sitting to standing I'm like, "Really?  Really?"  And the Jillian tells me that if she's gonna promise big results, it better be difficult, and I'm like fiiiiiiiine.

I'd really like to do it in the morning, but I do my cardio in the evening and don't really want to shower twice.  Sometimes I do Pilates in the morning, but that doesn't really make you sweat in comparison.  But then again, I'm often too tired after my cardio to Shred.  Should I Shred before cardio?  I don't really know.

Cali, you went straight into level 2?! Wowza. You're supposed to wait until you feel readddyyy to progress!  ::)

I'm kind of meh about the walking pushups..but I like the rows. Those military presses, and that other thing at the end..so hard! My arms can't really do it by that point. Try shred before cardio? I guess it could be a good warm up workout? I dunno...you could try it. I can never stick with morning work outs.

Yay.  ^-^

I'm still getting the hang of the walking pushups.  At first they hurt my back--I think I must have arched it by accident.  But if I keep my abs tight it doesn't happen.

Yes, by the end, it's so hard!  Those knee-ab thingies in the plank position.  :o

I didnt mean to go to level two! But I pushed play when I had it selected after reading the "Recommendations".  And since our dvd player takes forever and eternity to actually play something I just went with it.

I think tomorrow its back to level 1 and maybe give three a try later in the week just to see how it is.

Speaking of forever, I always have to remember to turn on the DVD and THEN go get my mat to set up.  Because it takes forever and eternity to get to the friggin menu!  I just put it on and let Jillian talk for ten minutes until the godforsaken thing decides to get to the menu.

OK ... don't hate me, but I found this workout to be too easy for me!
I finished level 2, and barely broke a sweat. (To be fair, I work out a lot, and between workouts I'm toting a 30-pound baby everywhere.) I got much faster results and a better workout with Jillian's "No More Trouble Zones" and "Banish Fat Boost Metabolism" videos.

Has anyone else here tried Jillian's other DVDs?

Also, I'm thinking of buying an exercise ball (like a big bouncy one) -- any recommendations?

Time to shredddddddd!

I decided after my gym workout is best because I don't want to go home in between.  Hopefully this time my floor won't be slippery.  ;)b

Fuckinnnnn shreddddddddd.

I did all my squat thrusts today!  And those oblique ab thingies!  And my jump ropes!  I hope Jillian is happy.

My back muscles feel good from all this.  Size D boobs = back hurting.  This is very helpful.

I'm happy! The squat thrusts are the jumping at the knees ones? I've yet to do the Natalie version because of the impact/sound. I'll try it tomorrow, though..

Ok, after a grueling 70 minutes of exercise I have decided that I like level 2 better than level 1.  Why? Jillian has more static moves or Anita mods making level 2 easier on my knees.  I shall give level 2 a shot tomorrow!  Now though, I need to go outside and clean up the branches littering my lawn.

I like that aspect, too. I like the static lunges so much more than regular. I'm liking level 2 more and more. I busted through shred today, and did probably 90% of the whole Natalie thing. I did the squat thrusts! They really aren't that loud. I find the military press, and the chair squat raise things to be the most difficult. My arms are so dead with those! Whew. The only thing I don't feel comfortable doing..are the double jump ropes. They like shake the apartment. I must be a giant. haha I try to do really high single jumps, though.

Oh, a tip that might not help anyone else: I use my older tv that's in our bedroom for shred-it has a dvd player in it (one of the combo ones), and if I just turn off the tv instead of stopping the dvd, it turns on, and plays to the menu..I didn't have to go through anything!

Does anyone else wonder how much weight they are using to do the video? I think it must be like 1-2 pounds because they have to keep perfect form, and all. Plus, when they drop them, they sound hollow! Either way, Natalie is pretty much toast at the end.

Oh, really?  I use fives.  But I notice that my arms don't really hurt today.  So either (1) I need higher weights (doubtful) or (2) I need lighter weights so I get a bigger range of motion?  I don't know.  But they are not sore at all, and I was really doing them.  And they were tough!  Like, I really had to use a lot of focus to do the military presses, but I did them well!  I'm confused.

I think I might just leave my DVD player on as well.  It's the only thing in there for most of the week.  Then just turn the TV on and off.

I use fives, too. Honestly, I'm never really that sore after shred (except in the beginning). It's just hard at the time, for certain things. My arms are definitely never sore. However, I know what using more weight did to me...killed my arms for a week! I'm not going there. I don't think you have to be sore to know that you've been worked out. Ya know? If you feel up to it, move up to like 7 or 8? I dunno. Really, I just thought the weights they use have to be lighter, because of the way they sound. Not that it matters, or anything!
Shreeeddddddddddddddd.
Biggest Loser tonight. Yay. Jilliweas.

I actually do not have weights, I just use my clenched fists.  Sometime I will buy a nice set of 5 pound weights but for now, just the exercise as is makes my arms, shoulders and back sore and tired!

Ok.  I'm gonna do it.  I'm gonna buy it.

If you are wanting to try something before you buy the weights, you can use a couple of detergent bottles, or anything that you can hold onto with some weight. I used one detergent bottle for a little while, and it worked fine...just slightly annoying.

eta: Yay, lotus!  :> We're doing for shred what we VW did for the diva! Yay, mdv!!!
