a weird gift from my omni friend

last week my friend came over to visit .for himself he brought a clubhouse sandwich combo and for "the vegans" he gave us a bag with a trunip ,a cabbage, and some carrots (im thinking i must of been a per-package stew kit).when we said we wanted to go to the store for more ingredients  he answered with "your vegans  what eles do you need besides vegetables "
so flash forward to last Sunday and im having a b day party 8)another one of my friends comes in and he bring chocolate for the omnis and a bag of frozen veggies for me and  my husband ;D. im thankful i have such generous friends , but i feel  our friend dont think we eat "fun things" anymore.. dose anyone eles have any simular story or do i have just have wierd friends?? ???

it's not just you. some people are rather frivolous with what they put into their bodies - they would never think to read an "ingredients" list on something like bread - for example. i know that for me, most of my friends have been around for so many years that they totally understand how/what i eat.
like lucidanne said: make a party. you'll surprise the heck outta them. :)

Funny!  It's sweet that they thought to bring you their interpretation of vegan food.  Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World would set them straight.

perhaps fruit will come. veggies.  ;)

it's like being asked "what do you eat?" all the time.

i agree with the others--have a party and make LUSH vegan food. cupcakes. candies. don't tell them it's vegan until they are on the floor STUFFED.

Yes, I like this image of "veggie hating" omnis groaning on the floor in a decadent treat coma! :agree?:

I think that is really hostile.  I would be p*ssed.

Actually, I thought kind of the same thing, of course depending on the way your friends presented their "gifts".. slap-dash veggies in a bag (esp. frozen ones) seems pretty rude, when everyone else is getting a fat sammich or chocolate.
I don't know, depends on the situation.

I also would think my friends were being rude if they brought me some frozen veggies to my birthday party. Maybe they do not want to understand as Baypuppy suggest, or maybe your friends just like to be smartasses ::). I don't know.

One of my best friends once brought a "Celebration of summer" basket to my housewarming with turnips, radishes, parsley, zukes, spagetti squash, etc. from her backyard garden and I LOVED it! But she also gave me an ice cream maker. A couple hours after she left the party, I got a voicemail where she literally smacked her forehead with her palm and said, "I'm SO SORRY about the ice cream maker! I didn't even thing about you being vegan!!"  ;D ;D  I called her back and said I'd make her some kale soy cream and we'd be even  ;)  But the basket of veggies was honestly my favorite gift from the whole party - perhaps your friends are wishing they were hotshot gardeners?  :-\

Maybe feed them Tofuttie Cuties 'til they ROTF

i would stick with fresh in my own gifting and probably collect with a recipe in mind (aka "they had these cool purple potatoes, so i got you some and some garlic and stuff to make purple potato soup!")

baypuppy, you may bring me vegetables with recipes in mind any time you want! :D That does sound good.

I think next time you see those friends, you should bring them frozen vegetables too. Your reasoning? "You're omni, which means you eat both animals and plants, right?"

It makes me angry when omnis fail to understand what omnivorous actually means, too. Hello, it is not just meats and white breads, you twits! I am always baffled when my friends tell me I eat a lot of vegetables. I mean, I do, and all, but omnis are supposed to eat veggies too...

well that's nice . . . . it is hard to tell just from your description whether they were purposefully being jerks or not

after 14 years my family still doesn't understand what we eat

It's a shame that pp don't expand their horizons when it comes to food. I get that question all the time"what exactly do you eat besides veggies".  If only they knew how stupid that sounds. I usually introduce sweets first, then I normally introduce a vegan meal at a later date. Once they taste the vegan dessert, they seem open to almost anything. I went to a book club meeting, once they found out that I was vegan, she opened up her refrig and said " I have some carrots and broccoli". No fault of her own, we had just met. I think pp should ask..what do you eat????? It's funny that meat eaters don't ask what's in their food.....maybe they don't ask because it would kill them if they knew.  I"ll take veggies anyday over flesh.  Maybe we should ask them, how do you guys eat that stuff?

we should just ask them "what do you eat besides meat?"
i bet the average omni's diet is far more limited than any vegan's. sometimes its necessary for us to be creative b/c we cant just grab a ready=made-processed food product out and about.

no kidding - i totally agree!  this guy i just met at work the other day first off asked what being vegan meant exactly.  and then after i told him he proceeded to say "but it's all just sooo bland".  wtf?  if you dont even know what it means how do you know how the food tastes??  i cant believe how many adults are so childish when it comes to trying new foods.  apparently if it doesnt include deep fried skin it must not have any taste at all!  if thats the case then why do people season or marinate meat?  if it is bursting with all that amazing natural flavor then why do they feel so inclined to drown it in sauces??
