Ok, so. I plan on losing around 40 pounds (i dont really know how much, im doing it mainly by sizes because i deplore scales) and i'm worried that my tattoos will be affected. I'm mainly worried about my big tree on my back. will it get all stretchy and gross? and what about (someday in the future) when i wanna have kids? will they get all gross then?
thankss!!
I think your losing weight now will probably not harm the tattoo at all...you are young and your skin is very elastic..and by the size of you I cannot imagine anything has stretched much at all (I think 40 pounds is a high estimate btw.) As for having babies, that will depend some people get huge and have no stretch marks at all some gain a tiny amount of weight with a tiny baby bump and have a ton...Often looking at your mom's skin is a good indication of hows yours may be.
ps. cocoa butter can be a pregnant woman's friend. ;)b
I've heard overwhelmingly that it's different for everyone. I shouldn't imagine your back would be somewhere that would be heavily affected, and if you're losing weight slowly and carefully then I think that would reduce your chances of stretch marks.
I lost almost 80 pounds five years ago (and kept it off yay me!), and all three of my tattoos came through just fine!

wow!!! that's inspiring! go you!!
about 2 years ago i lost a bunch of weight (not in the healthiest way) but i gained it right back.
Haha. I'm excited for when I get pregnant (not trying to or anything. lol) just for the reason of seeing what my tattoos look like. Ahaha. It shall be funny to see.
Pregnancy can do crazy things to tattooed belly buttons. From what I have seen, gaining weight effects them more than losing, but I agree that it would depend on the elasticity of your skin.
I lost 30 pounds a year and a half ago, and I have a chicken tattoo on my left back, just below my bra. It doesn't look the least bit different. That area didn't really change shape at all.
ETA: RIGHT back! I don't even know where my tattoo lives!
I think Rhoda (my back peacock) will look bigger and sexier when I'm skinny again....she won't be surrounded by so much blubber. I must say my hip tat looks so much smaller than it did when I got it - I remember it being bigger, but that was about 10lbs ago....
This doesn't have anything to do with tattoos but this thread made me sad because everyone in it looks amazing as is! I am reading the best book called "Health at Every Size" by Linda Bacon (hehe on last name) which is basically about how we all have programmed setpoints that our bodies want to weigh and it's pretty hard to stray from that weight (up or down) by more than 10-20 pounds. Everyone who has been on a diet knows how freaking hard it is. Also, the book talks about how there is no such thing as an ideal weight and about how the BMI is totally ridiculous. Also, people who yo-yo diet are actually a lot less healthy than people who are chubby.
Everyone should read this book, it's amazing! It focuses more on health and body movement, rather than diet and exercise. So, eating vegan means you're probably already half way there!
Anyway, this doesn't have much to do with the tattoo but seriously, everyone should read this book and start to love the body they have. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1933771585?ie=UTF8&ref_=sr_1_1&s=books&qid=1268969153&sr=1-1
That sounds like a good book. I've always felt this way about my body. It seems to settle into a comfort point, and I can't budge it, depending on my activity level. When I'm running it's one size, no matter what. When I don't run, it's about 20 pounds heavier, no matter what.
I've always thought it would be so sad to have a last name like that. She should change it to Pig or something alive.
