Vegan WIN

So. My omnivorous husband is a construction worker/builder's apprentice. And the other day he said him and some of the 'guys' got talking about food, he let slip his wife is vegan, cue: "so what, that's like, just salad and shit?" at which point he gears up and explains the huge variety of hearty, delicious, varied, tasty and filling food I make, and points out we barely ever even have lettuce in the house, and that we eat a lot more interesting food than any of them.
I call that a vegan win.
Share yours....
I wrote a while back that I had a "friend" who was always onto me about what I eat and talking behind my back about my deprived, starving daughter. I started sending her pictures of dinner everything via the phone. Soon she was complementing the food and talking about how good it looked. Now she writes everynight at dinner time to find out what I'm cooking and to try to convince me to invite her. This is a stereotypical morbidly obese meat-eating midwesterner who still doesn't really understand what a vegan is. Yummy real food wins over processed garbage! (Duh.)
Yay lbarte! I think once people get to experience the awesomeness of vegan food they get interested... After all, we don't just eat twigs and berries like most think :)
A couple of months ago I met one of my bf's dad's friends (get that?) and the woman was having headaches. I asked on a forum here about migraines, wrote her with some advice, told her to read The China Study. She read it, changed her diet, and she's feeling much better. They're eating less meat, have cut way back on dairy products, and they say they don't miss it at all. At Z's sister's wedding this weekend they brought our special vegan plates to the table, and when they set them down the woman said "I didn't know that was an option! I want that!"
VEGAN WIN
(I swear that if vegetarian/vegan was the default and we had to make meat-eaters make a special request, then everyone would be healthier and catering bills would be cheaper!!!!)

THIS
^ that's very true!
My win of the week comes after we had brunch on Sunday with my family for my dad's birthday. While we were there my husband ate bacon, scrambled eggs and buttery baked goods.
win #1 : he said to me later that day that he would rather have had a tofu scramble than the eggs : )
win #2 : on Monday he was feeling a bit off, and thought it might be down to a migraine even though the symptoms were quite different. On Tuesday he said to me that he thinks the reason he felt so bad was due to eating so many things his system isn't used to any more on the weekend. I mean, I'm sad he didn't feel good, but if his body is starting to say 'no!' to an overload of animal products, that's a great thing! : )

My migraines definitely become less frequent when I gave up dairy. I hardly ever get them now.
So I set up my bf Megan with a guy I used to know in high school.
We all went out together last Friday - and she's already converted him!
He hasn't eaten meat since Saturday!
And since I converted her to veganism last year, its kind of another VEGAN WIN for me, right?
totally is erin....well done, awesome vegan win!!
I served all vegan tacos yesterday to my husband's sister and a guy friend of ours. At the end of the meal, I broke it to them that it was totally vegan and their shocked faces were totally awesome ;D
The girl who lived upstairs moved out, and Z was helping her with heavy things. They chatted, and she mentioned that every time she came home and smelled our food cooking she wanted to pop in and eat some because it smelled so delish. Z informed her that we were vegan and our food was awesome. Her mind was blown.
VEGAN NEIGHBOR WIN!
I wish I had the article but sadly I do not.
Anyway, I'm not sure if this is just in ky or nationwide, but I read a newspaper headline that said meat prices are to reach a record high this summer, and the byline explained that cattle farmers were cutting back on production because of the recession.
SUPER BIG VEGAN WIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that's a true vegan win. that's like our secret evil plan.
super secret evil plan, I love it!
One I forgot about from a few weekends ago. I was helping the university debating society select teams for an upcoming international tournament, and, being the sharing kind of person I am, I baked cookies in the morning to take along to share with the other selectors, knowing it would be a drawn out afternoon and people would probably appreciate some sugar. I took three different kinds, everyone was diving in appreciatively, and one girl was hanging back. Eventually she said to me 'do any of these not have eggs in them?' ....
She was totally shocked and happpy when I told her than none of them had eggs in them, and so was everyone else : )
Last night my husband invited a few of his mates round, I cooked an asian feast for them, and I'd made a cake earlier in the day that we cut up after dinner. One of the girls asked all kinds of questions about replacing eggs in baking, and how easy/not it is, how she didn't even know why they are in recipes etc, ending up with everyone saying that the cake was really good and they wouldn't be able to say it tasted any different/like anything was missing from the 'normal' baked goods they're used to.
I know this is not news to us but it was pretty cool to hear from a room of omnis.
Smaller win: I was in barnes & nobles looking at some vegan cook books and noticed an older lady behind me so I moved out of the way with some books to look over. After a couple of minutes I went to put one of the books back and make my way to pay for the rest when I heard the older women ask a salesperson which of the books would be best for transitioning into a vegetarian diet. The clerk told her that he didn't know and I went over and talked with her for lk 30 mins in which I told her how I made my transition into vegetarian and then vegan. I also told her about meal planning, tips to make it easier, good foods to start out with and of course this website. She was so thankful for me helping herand it felt awesome being able to help someone find their way to a new healthy, cruelty free path.
Also: my southern meat- lovin' grandpa ate 3 vegan hot dogs before he knew they were vegan. He said he couldn't tell the difference!
Even better: My crush told me he ate lots of veggie burgers while he was on tour. :)>>>
That's awesome OB!
so when we had brunch at Theo's yesterday, Mr oww had a mug of tea, which he usually has white. Theo didn't have any milk, so he tried it with soy milk. Quite liked it...
When we went grocery shopping on our way home from the airport he mentioned again how much he had actually enjoyed the soy in his tea...
Last night he said to me that he would seriously consider switching, and wants to try it on his cereal to see if he likes it as much there too...
THANKS THEO!! : )

FRIGGIN YEAAAAAAAAAAA!
That's so awesome!!!!
yay!! that's great!
N will have soy milk on his cereal....but not in his coffee. I put him off before by adding it when the water was too hot and making it curdle. Then he left it to cool and it separated out totally. Ooops. That's a complete vegan fail and really shouldn't have been posted in this thread, but I've typed it now so it's staying.
Dairy is taking it's vengeance out on me. It's like a "low blow" vegan win courtesy of my body.
LLG, I find myself in a compassion paradox - do I feel sorry for you tummy troubles, or glad that dairy may soon find its way out of your life? Meh, I guess I'll just have to do both. Hope you're fighting fit asap. :)
