There's a mouse in my house. What should I do?

I just saw it. It was in the kitchen and then ran over into the living room (where I am). I am afraid of scaring it.
What do they eat? All we really have is fruit. Should I worry about it or will it just go away. Hummm....
P.S. it's really cute.
Your mouse and Erin's mouse should get together and have a dance party.
That would be adorable.
I found a baby mouse in my house a few months ago.
I tried to take care of it, but... it died.
It was adorable. I cried.
I realize now I should have just waited to see if the mommy would come back, but I neglected to realize..
From wikipedia: "In nature, mice are herbivores, consuming any kind of fruit or grain from plants. Due to this, mice adapt well to urban areas and are known for eating most all types of food scraps, especially cheese. In captivity, mice are commonly fed commercial pelleted mouse diet. These diets are nutritionally complete, but they still need a large variety of vegetables. Food intake is approximately 15 g (0.53 oz) per 100 g (3.5 oz) of body weight per day; water intake is approximately 15 ml (0.53 imp fl oz; 0.51 US fl oz) per 100 g of body weight per day"
Damn, guess I should take the fruit off the floor.
I'm kind of wondering if it came in with the last case of bananas we got.
We've had the paper towel / trash can trap set up the last 3 days - and nothing. I think he's a lot smarter than I'm giving him credit for. I don't mind coexisting with the little mouse, but he pooped on my counter and ate my pita bread, so I'm a little irritated now.
the electrical things that you plug in really deter mice without killing them
Would it actually make the little fucker leave my house, or just move into another part of the house? I think he lives in the fireplace.

it makes them leave, I don't know how or why it works but it's awesome!!
Thanks! I'll get one tonight.
we found a mouse on Saturday morning, but unfortunately we found it in the cat's mouth....
I think he'd only just brought it inside though, and once we got the cat away, the poor little mouse was more scared than hurt. We just picked him up and took him to a nice bushy area outside, there was no way I could try and look after him inside with the cat wanting to eat him...
...I hope he was ok...
I went and talked to Dustin on his break today and he doesn't know how we should get it either. I don't want to spend money on a trap (i assume any kind of humane thing is expensive?)
oww... I shouldn't even tell you this, but I heard that when a mouse/rat/gopher/whatever is bitten by a cat it dies because of some reaction with their saliva in their blood... I dunno if it's true.
:' (
I hope not... I don't even know if he'd really bitten it yet, the mouse looked ok, not really injured, just really really really frightened.
Have you seen your mouse again since you saw it run out of your kitchen?
hesp - the first trap we bought was only $3 at Menards - but it didn't work. My second homemade trap hasn't worked yet either - thats why I'm gonna get the electronic thing lubi was talking about. I don't know what else to do.....
I haven't seen him again, yet...
I've never actually seen my mouse. Andy claims to have seen him twice. We went a whole week without incident and thought he was gone. Thats when we found the poop on the counter and my pita bread munched upon.

Use fruit and seeds. Once you catch it, go put it in a nearby park.
"The world is big enough for all of us."
I like that.
Erin, did you ever figure out if your mouse has a nut allergy?
Saw him for the first time on Thursday night. He ran across the kitchen floor and under the stove.
We've put out peanut butter, bread and popcorn, but he hasn't touched any of it. He's a real dick.
We filled in one of the holes we think he might be coming through - but left the other one open just in case he was trapped inside......I just don't know what to do....
