So afraid

I get my wisdom teeth out August 13! I've never been "put under" before!!!

Um,  do your wisdome teeth hurt?  I am almost thirty and haven't had mine removed.  Dentist took an x-ray and found them, they are all impacted, but as the dentist said, if it doesn't hurt, why bother with them?  I haven't had an issue with them.  It isn't always necessary to get them removed.

Weird, my wisdom teeth dont hurt either, but my dentist said that I should get them removed even if they dont hurt...Hmmmmm maybe he just likes pulling teeth...or money.

I am thinking that maybe you should get a second opinion.  My mom has the exact same issue as I do, all impacted wisdome teeth and she also has never had them removed, and has never had any problems with them either.  Why spend the money or stress if you don't have to?

Agreed SnowQueen.  My teeth were impacted, but didn't hurt and my dentist said he would "keep an eye on them."  I did end up getting them removed, but not until they started hurting pretty badly.

Hmm... my dentist pointed to an x-ray showing how my impacted wisdom teeth would eventually grow in at an angle, ruining the effects of all those years and $$ spent on braces.  I guess they might have stayed impacted for life?  I agree, do some research and get another opinion.  :-\

eee good luck!!
i have had my bottom two removed, and they had to do each on a separate visit.  and they were impacted, so they had to crack each tooth into two or three pieces to get it out.  i was awake, and the novocain was NOT cutting it.  if i ever get my top two out i will be going under for sure!

Granted, I haven't had my wisdom teeth taken out, but I had to be put under for gall bladder surgery (stupid SAD diet). Anyways, it really isn't bad at all! They're very quick about it. I remember I was so scared, and they told me to relax and count backwards from 100 to 1; I made it to 94. Right before I fell asleep, I remember looking up at the anesthetist and saying "Man, this is good sh**!" The last thing I remember was the nurses howling with laughter! Next thing I knew, I was awake in the recovery ward, with a screaming child next to me. But in all honestly, it was so quick. It's kind of a weird feeling, 'cause if you're not used to it (like who is?), you almost fight the urge to go to sleep, but you can't. With all that being said, you'll be fine. It happens so quick, it'll be like you took a quick cat nap!
