Sad/happy story with a good ending--UPDATE
I got this message from a friend Down Under. Made my day.
"our idiot dog ran across the main road yesterday chasing a cat and was hit. The driver was trying to miss him but didn't quite make it . Our neighbour takes him for a walk on the weekend as we shop for him during the week and the dog just lost it and chased a cat. Our vet opened up for us and took him in and put him on a drip and all sorts of other meds. he was in deep shock and didn't recognise anyone. He was bleeding internally and they were going to put him down . When they went in with the needle he looked at them and they asked if we would wait for a few hours. After a long wait he was up and wagging his tail. We were that close to losing him. He is still there under observation but we will probably bring him home tomorrow. He is a complete idiot but we love him and are so happy he is coming home. Now I can think about the New Year and wish all the very best for 2008."
Whew! Our furry kids can sure put us through it! But this one has a happy ending.
THE HAPPY UPDATE: "We went to collect Gus from the vet and although he is home he is still not walking on his own , he is so badly bruised but time will fix that. We also arrived home with 4week old kittens who were left outside the vet's today. As it is New years Eve the vet is closing and they couldn't find anyone to look after them for a few days. They are so cute and are potty trained and love people , climb up to my neck and cuddle. How anyone can do this to animals I just can't think."
None of us can, Bee. None of us can.
(BTW my friend's name is Bee.)
You're right yabbit, the pets can give us as much worry as the kids. Sometimes more because they can't speak to tell us exactly what's up.
I hope your friends dog recovers & is back to his goofy self soon.
:)
I am so glad their 'complete idiot' will recover. :) Yes, our fur babies can certainly cause us much worry. Isabela used to be an expert of escapism. She would run with such glee always looking over her shoulder (I am sure laughing) to see if I was chasing her. Hadn't she looked, she surely would have heard my screams at the top of my lungs and the fear in my voice. As she lived on the streets for 5 or 6 years, she had road sense but it didn't make me feel better as she would run toward very busy streets. I would get a pit in my stomach and would pray she would stop. She always did. Then when we would walk back home with her securely on her leash. She would be all excited wagging her tail. Many people witnessed her sense of humour. It never seemed funny at the time.
My fear with all pets or strays is them being hit by a car. I am thankful your friends dog was one of the lucky ones.
Every time I see a dead cat on the road, I wonder if it was an accident, as in escaped out the door or if the owners let their cat out unsupervised.
yikes! I'm so glad they decided to wait a while. That would have been awful, but then I suppose they never would have known he could make such a miraculous recovery!
