Pro-dairy campaign at school.

Just thought I'd rant here where people miight understand.
At school, it seems that this week is some kind of "dairy is awesome" week. Every day so far they've spent at least five minutes on the morning announcements talking about how great dairy is. They pretty much make it seem like it's totally impossibleto live without dairy. Besides that, they're giving away prizes to people seen consuming dairy. I was in a bad mood this morning, so I kind of freaked out about their campaign. People stared.
It brings me to my question: why are they doing this? Is the dairy industry sponsoring them? I don't understand it. Urg.
EW! thats terrible! i get annoyed just by all of the 'got milk' posters in our cafeteria. maybe you could start a lactose intolerant/vegan club and talk about how dairy sucks and then talk about it on the afternoon announcements!!! hah.
Likely the dairy industry is sponsering some type of campaign in schools. Maybe try handing out leaflets, or putting up a few posters about how terrible dairy is?
In the words of TKitty, *headdesk.*
:boooo:

*Gasp!* Blasphemous! Don't you realize that the existence of mankind depends on our ability to guzzle the mammary fluid of perpetually-impregnated bovines? Don't be crazy, now...... :D
Seriously. Just seriously. >:(
That must be so frustrating, Courth! Yeah, don't be ashamed of speaking your piece against the dairy industry in the face of the "dairy is awesome" week, for sure. :)
YUCK. Good for you for speaking out. The dairy industry must of had a decrease in sales in your area or at your school.
It's very likely a response to "pouring rights" campaigns where soda pop companies get the right to vend their products on campuses... there was a backlash and they are trying to promote "healthy" alternatives now. And, um... well, the dairy lobby is just monstrously huge and has a LOT of control over U.S. food regulation history. Marion Nestle's book Food Politics is a great peek into that world.
its seems like diary advertising has got a lot more aggressive in general. Last time i was at the movies there was about 7 or 8 short milk ads in the previews.Maybey this is a sign that the diary industry is failing (fingers cross)
I bet the dairy industry is giving money to your school! Colorado Springs was the first city in the nation to allow food companies to advertise in its elementary schools in exchange for money. Now the trend is really widespread! It is really sad because the schools who allow the Coke banners to be up, or "Got Milk!", are probably receiving cash for it, and some have no other choice. I used to volunteer at one of the poorer elementary schools last year and the propaganda was everywhere. They used the much needed money for computers.
Still, there is no excuse! Launch your own campaign - write a letter to your school newspaper, encourage your cafeteria to offer other options because it 'discriminates' against non-milk drinkers, etc.
I grew up in rural Iowa and yes, it's all about creating a market for the farmers' products, be it milk, or whatever else. There would be huge signs in the supermarket saying things like "May is Pork Month" etc. but also we would have a special assembly and some "doctor" would come in and tell us how important it is to eat (whatever the particular council financing the deal sponsors). It was all dressed up as some kind of "public service announcement" (kind of like the anti-drug speakers, firemen talking about fire safety, etc) but it was simply a way to get little Tommy and Jenny to go home with the posters, stickers and other "fun stuff" and get into mom's shopping list and pocket.
