NVR: I have been ripped...

Okay, so it is no big deal and all of your are about to laugh, but anybody who reads my lame posts know that I have this huge "thing" for Alaska.  Okay, so I love any movies or books about Alaska, but the movies have to be filmed there.  So I was at the store and bought the first season of Northern Exposure.  Cool, a show filmed in Alaska, awsome.  But after watching a few episodes I notices something wasn't right, the trees didn't look right...where are the white spruce, and the fireweeds, and those mountains don't look right either.  So, I was wondering where "Cicely, Alaska" was becuase I have never heard of that before.  In the show he mentions snakes.  I am thinking, hmmmm, there are  no snakes in Alaska.  Thinking that the town must be by Haines or by Homer, somewhere south of where I have been, I find out on the web that the show was filmed in Washington State!  So I feel ripped!  I hate the way they make movies to take place in Alaska but are not actually filmed there!  I can tell the difference between Washington and Alaska!  There is a huge difference!!!!  >:(  Very annoying.

Sorry, off of my rant.  Not sure if I will am going to buy anymore season's of Northern Exposure now.  I feel jipped.  Thanks, I feel better.  See, I knew you would laugh!

Whatever you do, don't read anything about Vancouver.  :o

Northern Exposure is excellent, despite the fact that it is not filmed in Alaska!

The "Northern Lights" are a cheap visual effect, too. Nothing like the real thing.

BUT I was glad to find season 1 on DVD because every time they aired the pilot episode we would get a thousand phonecalls and visits that HAD to be attended to. Given the fact that they usually showed NE at about 9 PM--most annoying.

Now if the Stacey Keach version of Mike Hammer were affordable...that was a show you couldn't even get distracted or you'd miss something vital, and I never did get to sit down and see a single episode uninterrupted.

According to IMDB "Attack of the Flesh Devouring Space Worms from Outer Space"  was filmed in Alaska (I haven't seen it but it sounds great.).  :D
and I learned that Mystery, Alaska was filmed in Canada.  ???
You can enter Alaska in "location" on this search page: http://imdb.com/list to get a list of movies made there.

Wherever it was filmed, Northern Exposure is worth watching. It was very well written. I believe a lot of the production/writing crew went on to be instrumental in the creation and production of HBO's The Sopranos.

I was actually kind of kidding.  Though I was disappointed to find out that it wasn't filmed in Alaska, I still like the subject.  It is my dream to live in a small town of about 100 to 500 people up there.

And Capture: you are evil.  Giving me the a picture of the only place on earth I want to be and can't afford to be at!  But I have some pictures that I took myself that are quite increadible, if I am allowed to brag on myself a bit.  But it isn't hard to be a great photographer up there.  Here in East Texas, it takes a real trained eye, to find beauty.  Houston is not the place to live if you like beautiful scenery.

Sorry, I hate Texas, can you tell.  I WANT OUT, I WANT OUT, I WANT OUT!!!!!!  Texas sucks, oh yes it does.  That should be the theme song here...oh, sorry if you are from Texas.  I just hate it here.

I know how you feel SQ, well to a degree at least. I absolutely love all things Alaska as well & am slightly obsessed with the thought of moving there myself some day...
Northern Exposure is my favorite TV program of all time!!!  ;D
I love it so much but  it  makes me a little angry that they didn't film in Alaska. What a rip off indeed!  You should  most def. check out the later seasons- use your imagination & rent season 3, it really is great.

I love Northern Exposure.  I want to visit Roslyn, WA to see where some of it was shot.  My dad was stationed in Alaska during the Korean War and he says the elevation marker at the beginning is a joke also.

Snowqueen: I used to live in Houston, right off of Bellaire and Beltway 8!  You are right, Houston is not very beautiful. It made me so sad that the kids near the school I taught it had no place nice to play outside. Not even a park within walking distance, just concrete, apartments, and strip mall after strip mall...

I moved to Minnesota. It's not Alaska, but there is a lot of snow. :)
