Job interview advice?
I have my first ever job interview tomorrow afternoon and I was wondering if anyone had advice for me? I'm kind of very nervous and already had 2 dreams of it going wrong. One of the main things is what to wear? I have black dress pants, i'm wearing those. Then I have a choice of either black flats or black pointy dress heals. And for a shirt I have a white polo, or white 3/4 sleeves dress button up shirt. The interview is for Michaels (the craft store!) and I know that their employees have to wear khakis and black shirts. So I don't know if the dress shirt is too dressy? Anyone else I've asked has given me bad ideas which all include showing tattoos, which I am not going to make the mistake of doing.
Or is there anything you guys think I should know before going to it? Ahhhh. My mix of nerves and excitement are just tearing me to pieces!
Is it too late to vote for the button-up shirt? I dress a bit nicer than I would for the actual job when interviewing, but not too over-dressed. I'm with everyone on the black pants and flats.
Michael's doesn't have sewing classes, but I think they have demonstrations. You could ask if in-store demonstrations are provided by a vendor or if store employees are able to contribute to them.
I'm with humboldt_honey on this one. Button-up shirt, black pants and flats. Professional, but not overly dressed or distracting(loud prints, bright colors, visible tattoos or body piercings). You want the interviewer to focus on you and the qualifications you bring to the job.
You've locked in the interview, which means they see you as a strong candidate for the job. The interview process means they want to get a better sense of who you are, qualifications, passion, and, simply, "is she someone who I, staff and customers would enjoy working well?"
Lastly, do your homework. Make sure you know Michael's, its products, services and classes inside and out. This will impress your interviewer and will show him/her you that the learning curve will be short and that you will be ready to go once you are hired.
Just realized my advice is a little late. So glad you're interview went well. Let us know when you hear back from Michael's.
I have 5 hour training on Mondayyyyy.
I got one outfit for work at a place in the same plaza that has resale clothes. Woo!
congrats sarah!
