IYO, what's more green?

In your opinion, what's more green? All in one products like Dr. Bronners and Tates....or solid products like shampoo bars, deo bars, soap bars, conditioner bars, etc?
I like to buy a big amount of everything for when I'm living in the dorm so that I don't have to worry about anything like that while I'm in school so I'm either going to buy a big thing of Dr. Bronners and Tates or I'm going to buy a bunch of solid products. I also like to be as green as possible too though. It might seem kind of like a stupid question but it's important to me.
Don't use Bronners in your hair unless you have really, really short hair. The stuff takes forever to wash out and builds up overtime making it greasy and dull. Shampoo bars may not be much better. I've made this mistake before. Now I use an all natural shampoo from the health food store. For everything else except brushing your teeth, Bronners works great. You may also want to buy a seperate deodorant unless you are a non-sweater.
I kow this is not the exact answer you are looking for but it may save some heartache.
Nope, that's a fine answer :)
What do you mean about the solid shampoo bars? Do you mean that they're not very green or that they would be hard to get out of my hair? I only use shampoo bars right now and they're my favorite product ever! I have yet to try Dr. Bronners in my hair and have a feeling it might be too oily. I also use a solid deo bar right now that I love and has no packaging except for a tiny piece of paper it was wrapped in, I don't think I will use Dr. Bronners for that...not crazy about liquid on my armpits. Have you tried using Dr. Bronners for your teeth? I was planning on trying that tonight after I read about it on the site.
Solids take less packaging, but other than that, I'm not sure there is anything inherently more green about them. I'm a fan of baking soda.
Deodorant: Mix 1 tablespoon baking soda & 4 tablespoons corn starch (The baking soda is the deodorant part and the corn starch keeps your pits from turning dark - compliments of lubimiller)
Teeth Brushing: baking soda
Shampoo (I haven't tried this): Dissolve 1 tablespoon baking soda in 1 cup water.
Conditioner (I haven't tried this, either): Mix together 1 tablespoon apple cider and 1 cup water.
don't wash your hair or use soap... i've had the same thing of dr bronner's for over two years... and that's two people.
I've never tried a solid product on my hair, does it lather well?
I use Dr. Bronner's Castile Peppermint soap on my hair and a bar of soap on my body (I use a scrub brush or loofah and try to keep the bar fairly dry so it lasts longer). Dr Bronner's will build up in your hair if the water is hard, but otherwise it rinses out fine. Baking soda and a few drops of water on my armpits works best for me.
My co-op has where you can buy Nature Gate shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, and Dr. Bronners soaps in bulk...you just take in your own containers and fill them out of their large containers. That's pretty green, and you can buy smaller amounts of something, if you're limited on space in your dorm room.

I mean hard to get out of your hair. It could be my water but anytime I use a non-shampoo (i.e. soap) on my hair is a disaster. Even using vinegar or lemon juice as a rinse just doesn't leave my hair feeling the same as with shampoo. I know it sounds vain. Don't really consider myself a high maintenance person (don't get my nails or hair done or wear designer duds). But having a bad hair consistently day after day does start to bring things down. Also, using extra water to wash out my hair was not that eco-friendly either.
Recently, I've learned that you don't have to wash your hair everyday. Every 2-3 days is fine. Some people go without shampoo althogether (Don't know how). Supposedly, after a week or so your sweat glands adjust and your hair is no longer oily.
I'm a big fan of Lush solid shampoos and soaps. They store easily, and there is no danger of them leaking or spilling. I also especially looove their massage bars for moisturizer. I'm not sure whether they are 'greener' than dr bronner's type soaps, but I dislike bronner's for anything other than cleaning.
I really like lush solid shampoo and soaps. I would tend to think that solid stuff = no packaging = more green, but I have never heard of Dr. Bronners etc so no idea what that would entail.
I have gone through stages of using baking soda for shampoo and vinegar for conditioner, can verify that it does definitely work well! Just takes some fluffing about, a bit of effort. But it makes my hair nice.
For deodorant I use baking soda, so cheap and works way way way better than any deodorant I have ever bought. For srsly.
For moisturiser I use organic coconut oil. You use so little a jar will last you over a year, so about $10 for a years worth of moisturiser is a good deal to me! And it smells yummy and works for my skin really well.
Basically, I hate beauty products and don't really use them - the only real skincare stuff I get is cream facewash and soap from Lush (so I guess thats my vote for solid products?). Everything else I go the hippy route and it works awesome :D
theo, which face stuff do you use from lush? I've been using a wash from my sister's office (she works for a dermatologist/cosmetic surgeon) from a brand called Obagi and using lush's "Imperialis". I like imperialis with my old wash from Murad, but with the obagi stuff my face breaks out a lot.. I was wondering if you've tried any of the lush washes?
I use Angels on Bare Skin, it's made with almonds and it works really well! I tried it becuase the shop girl recommended it so thought I'd give it a go, and have been back to get it twice now when I've run out, so think I'm sticking with it. :D It's a nice balance between gentle enough and cleaning enough.
I randomly stopped wearing deodorant about a month or 2 ago. I haven't noticed me smelling too much, so I think I'm gonna do without.
I use an Australian shampoo, that I'm sure isn't available in the states, but it's really good. I have also been training my hair to only need a wash every 5 days (used to be every other day). Partly because I want to use less shampoo/conditioner and partly because I'm lazy. But yeah it's definitely possible to wash you hair less often than daily.

That's exactly what I use right now and I was planning to do a large order before I move back into the dorm. I think I'm just going to stick with this plan. I'm a huge fan of solids and especially of LUSH. Btw, Imperialis isn't a face wash, it's a facial moisturizer. I'm using Aqua Marina right now.
Haha, I know it's a moisturizer. Hence why I said I use it with Obagi/murad face wash...
I like Dr bronner's for body wash, but that's about it. I hate it as shampoo. I use baking soda and corstarch for deodarant, and shea butter for moisturizer.

I dunno... you are pretty smelly.... ; )

which one is this? Did you just get it from the supermarket or..?
I used to only wash my hair like twice a week but now I have to wash it more often depending on what I do at the gym.. blah... I hate it when it's freshly washed!
it's ummm....nature's organics, I think. Let me google it (yes this is easier than getting up to check the bathroom).
yep Natures Organics Organic Care....it even says vegan on the bottle!! I get it from New World. Really well priced (IMO) - 400ml for ~5 or 6 dollars. Cheaper than Eco Store. I discovered that Heli uses the same one.
We also get their shower gel, which N loves, from Pak n Save. That's about the same price. I think that one says vegan on it, but can't actually remember right now. Pretty sure it did otherwise I wouldn't have bought it.
eta: less on the stinky comments!
I Use that shampoo tooooo! It makes my hair so lovely and its cheap and all full of goodies :D It's my favourite ever!
yeah, it is great. I love it! It's better than the one I used in the UK and cheaper too!!!
Does anyone here take navy showers?
