Five positive things you could tell others about yourself.
I try to be a pretty positive thinking and after reading the five things that others don't know about you, I was hoping this would be a way of people looking for good qualities in themselves.
1. I am so proud that at 55 I just started jogging, and love it.
2. I have been married for 25 years and have never been unfaithful.
3. I have been a vegan for 30 years and have never ate meat or been tempted to during all that time.
4. I taught my youngest daughter to play the piano and now she is playing Beethoven at 7 years old.
5. I support a medical missionary in Africa who teaches large groups about becoming vegan, avoiding aids and healthful living.
All that sounds pretty lame to me and a little like bragging but I thought I should say something since I started this thread. Hopefully someone can do better than me.
1. I have been profoundly, deeply content and happy with my life for the past 4 years or so. This is a first in my (then, when it started) 42 years of life.
2. I am finally getting in shape and learning the tools I need for a healthy lifestyle.
3. I have been married for 26 years and never even considered being unfaithful. Which is not to say I haven't had opportunities. It's nice (in a kinda, sorta way) to know men still find me attractive but no, it doesn't appeal.
4. I have no kids but often find myself doing "Mom duty" for my students, even some who are around my age. It's nice to know they feel they can come to me.
5. Four things is all I got. For five, I'd have to ask someone else.
5 EDITED: OK, I'll say it. I like me. I think I'm pretty darn cool. I'm a survivor and even though inside I feel as shaky as a baby's rattle most of the time, I'm still here.
((Printerguy)) :bear2:
I really like that you are making such an effort to bring positive thoughts to vegweb!! If you are having a hard time filling this out....ask a friend/loved one what they like about you. Yabbit; you should too and then edit your #5!! ;)b
1) I adore my husband and have not had the desire to be unfaithful. Printerguy and yabbit; you both are an inspiration for longevity of marriage/partnerships!
2) I volunteer at BBBS and I donate to 2 well deserving organizations: Dogs on Death Row and a catch, then spay/neuter, then release feral cat nonprofit here locally that I can't remember the name of this early in the AM.
3) I finally applied to the university that I'll be getting my bachelor's degree from. I'll be the first in my family to obtain it! Heck...I think I'm the first for an AA as well.
4) I would do anything for those that I loved. Right now, I am the most monetarily stable in my family and have been lucky enough to spread that around when needed. Oh! And I give GREAT belly scratches to Bella whenever she wants!!
5) I like myself. I know that sounds kind of weird, but generally speaking I am proud of the person I've turned out to be. :)
**This does kind of sound like a bragging list, but as human beings we are all so ready to put ourselves down that something like this can really put some things in perspective.**

WOW!!! You are AMAZING printer guy. If all that sounds "pretty lame" to you I'm not going to list my positive things which are weak weak weak in comparison!
Kudos for starting the positive threads!
:)>>>
Printerguy, you're really awesome! Thanks for being here.
1. I'm one of the most flexible people I know. I am equally as comfortable in a discussion of social statistics as I am in a discussion of Romantic-era music as I am of beer as I am of NFL football. And I'm equally comfortable doing or teaching research, playing such music, drinking said beer, and watching said football--and have been known to do all four in a single day.
2. I got married at 22 when noone ever thought I got married, and I left the mid-atlantic seaboard for a job in the midwest at 26 when the east coast was all I had known (and when everyone I knew on the east coast thought the midwest was a bunch of tumbleweeds, and when I knew noone my age who had the job I have). And, I love my husband and my career.
3. I have a really high tolerance for doing things with a million little steps, like building furniture. In fact, I enjoy IKEA furniture. So, I'm the preferred family member to help out in home improvement projects and as a sous-chef, because I'm completely logical in the process and don't get frustrated easily. Along those lines, among my friends I was always the one to go to for really practical advice or help, like on research projects or teaching ideas. I'm not a very emotionally demonstrative person (I'm an introvert AND a thinker according to Meyers-briggs), but the fact that I'm valued by my friends and family in these ways to me says that I'm loyal, trustworthy, and dependable in my own way :)
4. According to my husband, I have an intense "inner strength."
5. I've been trying really really hard to be more active despite being *that girl* in gym class. As a result, I'm running for the first time ever, and I'm way physically stronger than most people assume looking at me.
1. I try to be as generous as possible, from letting another driver in during rush hour to mailing a box of pantry staples to a friend who was down on his luck for a long time.
2. I feel that I try to share what I have learned with others in a positive way so that they can learn from my own mistakes rather than making their own.
3. In college I took several art classes and have bronze, wire and ceramic sculptures from that time. I really wish I could find someplace to do that again, casually making bronze would be amazing.
4. I donate to and shop at thrift stores like Goodwill and Salvation Army. When I moved from TN to CT I left darn near my whole apartment to them (minus the kitchen & Angel's stuff).
5. While I am not a casual huggy person, people that I do love, I like to hug them!
1. I have a frighteningly high IQ.
2. I am a practical person and prefer to help a friend work through a problem than just lament about it.
3. I've managed to spend three years with my lovely boyfriend and am always trying to worker harder in our relationship.
4. I make excellent banana muffins.
5. I spent a summer volunteering with Oxfam, working in their office and being a general dogsbody.
1. I have been with my husband for 29(OMG) years this July, married for 23 of them and have never been unfaithful.
2. I love passionately...my family is my life and I would give anything for them.
3. I am extremely sensitive and intuitive which makes me very good at giving accurate and helpful advise to family and friends...(or even strangers if they ask)
4. I am kind.
5. I try to see the good in people even if I don't like them.
Not to mention that your avatar + subnick totally rock! :)>>>
I like this one!
1) I am (like Yabbit, since I'm the daughter she never had!) a survivor. At 25, I feel like I can make it through anything because I already have. The worst is behind me because now I know that no matter what happens, I am strong enough to rely on myself. I've become a real go-getter, and an optimistic one, even!
2) I found the guy who matches my soul. We're not exactly alike, but boy do the differences make things more interesting! I love him. He makes the future look so amazing. I enjoy the present, don't get me wrong... but dang I can't wait to see what happens next!
3) I am back in college! I am sooooo proud of that! I had to drop out for 5 years, but I am back and better than ever!
4) I adopted Pouncival, which is such a boost to my self-esteem. He wasn't even a kitten. Most people would (and did) pass over him because he's past the "cute little ball of fluff" stage. I love him so much, and I hope those folks at the shelter know (well, I told them, but still) how much good they do by taking in the ones nobody seems to want.
5) My brain is awesome. Not only can it learn languages and logic and remember things I learn in class... but it's just the most amazing thing because nobody can take away all those things I learn. My hopes and experiences, the things I know and feel. Those are mine for the rest of my life.... as long as this brain of mine keeps firing off electricity and whatnot. That's why my education is so important, and why I don't think any lesson in life is worthless. I love to learn!
Yay me! And yay you guys!
;)b

M'ija,
Languages *and* logic? Together in the same brain? *Genuflects*
There's a Spanish proverb that says, "El saber no ocupa lugar." Knowledge doesn't take up space.
The more you learn the more you can learn...and the less likelihood you have of turning into a non-veg*n vegetable as you get old. Apparently everytime we learn something new we're creating new connections in the brain and that helps stave off brain disorders as we age.
Not to mention that your avatar + subnick totally rock! :)>>>
I hope this was directed to me. :)>>>

Well, not like a million languages! But I learned Spanish in high school and early college, and apparently just have a knack for it... and I think I'm still learning English.
^-^
My Spanish is very rusty, but it's still in there. Apparently my credits didn't transfer, since I didn't have Spanish 1 & 2, I had Spanish 4 & 5 or something. I may have to take two more (basic level) foreign language classes. I'm debating whether to take Spanish for giggles, or try something new... like Latin! I took a Greek & Latin roots class, and it was really cool!
1.) I have a knack for "diplomacy" in difficult situations
2.) Though it has been difficult, and I have had "help" at times, I have lived "on my own" w/o moving back in w/ my dad for 5 years!!
3.) My friends often refer to me as the "love guru"....I am intuitive and though I have TONS of water in my zodiac chart, I can rationally look at emotions, and where they are headed.
4.) I am an excellent cook and can feed an army on a shoestring budget
5.) I have an open door/ear/shoulder policy for my loved ones and they all know that if they need me, for damn near ANYTHING, I'll be there, or try my darndest to help!
1) I took a leap from my original life plans after college in order to do something to help kids who are failed by our education system. It's way harder than I expected, and I do not believe I am a great teacher. But I do think I am instilling my kids with a sense of self-worth by loving them unconditionally every day. They know that no matter how badly they mess up, they can come in the next day and I will still love them and think they are worth my time. They are so dear to me.
2) I've been told I am well-spoken and good at expressing my thoughts. This is important to me because I used to be quite shy.
3) My sister Alyssa is my best friend. My sister Erin is also my best friend, but in a different way. Alyssa and I are entirely different people, and I used to hate her because of this, but now we've broken through to the love part and couldn't be closer. I'm proud that we overcame our differences.
4) I can run very far even though I have un-fixable neurological problems in my right foot/leg. This is sometimes painful for me, but it sure beats being told that I might never walk when I was a baby.
5) I'm quite good at painting, knitting, and violin.
I'm incredibly forgiving, even when other people would likely tell me I shouldn't be.
I have a high capacity for self-control
I am very patient with long-term decisions
I am good at teaching myself
I am insatiably expressive through creativity
1. I am a good listener.
2. I am extremely patient.
3. I am a hard worker.
4. I don't give up.
5. I remember everyone's birthday.
:)>>>
1. I always strive to do my best at EVERYTHING, and therefore, I'm a hard worker, and follow through with what I set out to do.
2. I have mega organizational skillz.
3. I truly think I have the ability to do..most anything I set my mind to, and want to do.
4. I moved with my beloved P so that I could fulfill my neuroscience professional dream. After deciding it wasn't for me (that, specifically), I made the decision to leave, and kept my head up.
5. Like THHF, I am also very sensitive and intuitive to others' needs and feelings. I think I can read people fairly well, and love that I can make people smile.

I think this is why we are friends. Seriously. I don't have those skills, so we're complements. Complementary angles. :iloveyou:
