Cost of a vegan diet

I just got an email from the CVA that had this link in it (just ignore the Christian content at the bottom of the page if you're not interested):
http://www.all-creatures.org/recipes/foodcosts.html
It's interesting that January-June 2004, they spent $4.02 per person per day average for food and July- December 2008, it was $4.63. Eating non-processed food (no Bocca burgers, etc.) is very cost-effective. I was pricing the meat-alternatives at Wal-Mart yesterday and passed on all of them as being too expensive! Of course, I do have a few packages of Amy's Texas burgers in the freezer but those are "special occasion" treats now.
Prepackaged anything is more expensive. You're paying for the convenience!! Damn some of those things for being so tasty!
it would be nice if that link had a meal plan on there.
I spend about $4 or less some days to eat.
Need to up that a little to get more variety.
They do have a recipe section: http://www.all-creatures.org/recipes.html
By googling "vegan meal plans", I found this site:
http://living-vegan.blogspot.com/2007/02/vegan-sample-meal-plans.html
You should be able to figure out how to get more variety between all those sites! ;)b
Or you can just browse through the recipes here and find a couple of veggies/grains, etc. each week that you haven't tried and expand your diet that way.

Both of those sites are amazing!!! I could be reading them for hours!
I think I was misunderstood here.
Was saying it would be nice if the church site did a meal plan to show you how they ate for $4.02 a day.
Something like emealz has where they give you the menu and shopping list
With there service you know how much your shopping bill will be for the week

I wonder if I requested that they post the meals if they' do it! No harm trying!
eta: I emailed them through their comments email address. It'll be interesting to see what response I get!
NICE! thanks for posting this tintexas! I have been looking around the web for months trying to remember where I found this recipe: http://www.all-creatures.org/recipes/collpot-ital.html. As you can see I found it! I finally remembered when I clicky the recipe page and saw all the pics ;)b
I wonder how many people they are feeding and where they are shopping. It is easy to save money when buying in bulk at discount places. Even if it is dry beans, in season veggies and pick your own fruits.
Sounds about right for our household, honestly. We spend about $70 a week for groceries for 2, and that includes household things (toilet paper, aluminum foil, etc...), so that breaks down to $35 per week per person, or $5 per day per person. It actually would be less if it was indeed vegan, because the bf buys a pound of lunch meat every week, and cheese slices every few weeks, and it would be less if he didn't buy bunches of flavored seltzer.
haha. Yea, I never really go for the fake meats much anymore. I like to cook my own 'meaty' things with TVP and such... a lot cheaper.
Don't get me wrong, occassionally I indulge in some pre-made seitan or something... and Nutritional Yeast is not cheap, especially when you love it, or some high-er end baking gear.
