2008 - Success!
New year's resolutions are fine and dandy, but it always gives me the impression that the previous year just wasn't good enough and I should prepare to be better next year, improve myself, etc...
While I do agree goal setting is important, I just wanted to take a minute to list what we did succeed at over the past year, dangit!
I'll start.
1) I went back to school full-time. I got all straight A's and was invited to join the honor society. (its just community college, but it is a big deal for me...)
2) I did a lot of gardening.
3) Took my first vacation ever with my kids and mom. Went to the ocean for the first time. It was awesome.
4) I voted for the first time.
That's about it.
Let's end this year on a positive note! What are you guys proud of from 08?
I graduated college! It felt very anti-climatic...but I'm still happy about it, in retrospect. Not much else unusual happened, really, nothing really bad or really good. *knock wood* It was a lull. Now 2007...actually, I wouldn't mind another year like 2007. So much excitement!
I graduated college!
Congratulations! That's great!
We got some serious home maintenance done. We are now poor again, but it was a good use of DH's tiny retirement package. No more black mould!
I broke my addiction to OTC sleeping meds, thanks to support from VWers and some of the folks at Post Secret.
I found a doctor who would listen. (Major effing achievement in this part of this country, where all doctors think they are God in person.)
I achieved an electric sewing machine.
I realised that I am content with my life. There is always room for improvement but I am happy with myself and my life.
The major stumbling-block in my faith community (and a large part of my life) was removed. I am not directly responsible for this but I did take a stand on the issues and maintain it! And it was great when people in positions of respect came and told me "You were right, it would have been a horrible mistake."
I have stopped apologising for myself as a person, or for the way I live my life. That doesn't mean I've gone to the other extreme and become confrontational, but I have learned that other people don't change their ways for me, so mine are acceptable.
1) I graduated the highest in my class!
2) I'm independent from my parents.
3) I learned a lot about educational inequity.
4) I completed teacher boot camp.
5) I successfully taught at least a handful of students some mathematical concepts.
6) I went on lots of very good and very humorously bad dates.
I paid off my massive credit card bill and my graduate loan.
Becasue of this I have managed to save some money during 2008.
Niall went self employed (and unfortuntely didn't manage to make a go of it due to the crappy financial market) and we have managed to survive on my wages and still have some savings.
We decided to make the move to NZ this year and told my parents about this plan.

Fan-tabu-loso! If you ever get tired of it, I want your life. In a heartbeat. :)>>>
Especially the "moving to NZ" part. (Don't get me wrong, the debt-free bit would be good too.)
Ah thanks Yabbit!
For me, 2008 was almost a total suckfest, but in the category of success:
1. I went from lacto-vegetarian to vegan raw foodist.
2. I lost 13 pounds and am keeping it off.
3. I stopped playing it safe and decided to move, which is actually happening this month.
2008 made some big success changes:
1. Moved out of the housing I was in and now have my own place.
2. Finally went back to school and am surviving it.
3. I started meeting some really nice people.
4. I am finding more and more positive support for being vegan.
