Your favorite vegan breakfast sausage and bacon

After finding the Lightlife breakfast sausage and bacon disappointing, I'm wondering what else I should try.   I loved Morningstar Farm's breakfast links and bacon, so similarity to those would be a bonus.  Product recommendations or recipes are welcome!  I've made seitan before, but never "sausage style."  As for bacon, I'm thinking Veganomicon's smoky grilled tempeh made in strips might do the trick.

Gimme Lean Sausage... Hands down, end of story, tastes exactly like sausage

i hope you're not saying you found this sausage disappointing... if so there is no hope for you LOL

I had the smart sausage breakfast style - they are small sausage links.  They tasted weird and the very hard texture was off-putting.  I'm looking for something in link or patty form - I always assumed the ground sausage would just be like crumbles, but is it actually something you slice or form into patties?

the stuff in this tube is rather sticky but yes, i form it into little patties and fry them up... i have had meat eaters eat them and not be able to tell... this is something i eat on rare occasions but heavenly in a breakfast style sandwich... i don't usually use this for crumbles, it is best made into patties

I like the kind Amy said.

Bacon wise I think I used the lightlife or whatever ones too? Like for sammiches. Mm.

I haven't been able to find the tempeh strips yet, but I have another store to check.  I think I have seen the Gimme lean sausage, though, and I will definitely have to try it!  Thanks for the suggestions, and keep them coming if there are more! :)

Dude, the gimme lean is pretty good for sausage, and so is Soysage.

For bacon, you have to rock the VWAV recipe for tempeh bacon. It shits all over any store bought bacon.

Sausage has the same texture when uncooked. It loses its slimeyness when fried :)

It's not so much the sliminess, but the taste.  Yuk.....but I really don't like breakfast sausages, I was always a bacon eater.  :)

I just discovered Gimme Lean, and it is FANTASTIC.  I usually wet or oil my hands to make the patties, and it really helps.  El Hubbito likes Gimme Lean better than flesh sausage!

Hands down, best vegan sausage is Twin Oaks Community.  They're a local, intentional commune that makes vegan sausage, chorizo, tempeh, tofu, and mushroom pate.  Not only is their sausage the best ever, but it's cheaper, and the their tofu is the best I've ever had, so firm thick and full of flavor.  My fiancee and I will eat it plain with salt.

Here's their site:  http://www.twinoakstofu.com/our-products/vegetarian-sausage/

For patties, I use Morningstar organic soy patties.  Honestly, the regular patties are better, but the organic are still good, and organic is important enough to me that I am willing to sacrifice a little. For crumbled sausage (i.e. that you would put into gravy for biscuits and gravy), I have used the lightlife sausage, and it was good, but I haven't bought it again since it doesn't have an organic variety.  The lightlife smokey tempeh strips are good for Fakin' Bacon, but I usually just buy regular tempeh and make my own from this recipe: http://www.vegetariantimes.com/recipes/10560

Too bad Morningstar Farms breakfast sausage (patties and links) aren't vegan. :(

But, I tried the GimmeLean sausage this morning - awesome!  They browned up lovely and looked almost too much like real sausage (no gristle, though, thankfully!).  The texture and flavor were great - a little spicy, but not too much.  A perfect Saturday breakfast with scrambled tofu and hash browns!  Thanks so much for the suggestions.

I'm going to look for the tempeh fakin' bacon at another grocery store (my usual place didn't have it).  I would like to try making my own tempeh bacon, but it would be nice to have a prepackaged option too.
