What did you cook/eat today: Parents and Kids Edition!

So...who's willing to share what their kids actually eat on a day to day basis? My little girl is 7 and in 2nd grade in public school IN TEXAS, so almost everything she eats has to be homemade. She just ate hummus on toast and two pickles for breakfast because I'm busy answering work emails. Oops.

Yesterday:
B: vanilla Silk yogurt w/strawberries and blueberries. Chai for her, coffee for me.
L: Tacos w/black beans, spinach, salsa (avocado on mine), leftover rice
S: popcorn, smoothies
D: giant veggie stirfry (squash, broccoli, cabbage, baby bok choy, carrots, celery, green onion, garlic, snow peas) with tofu, steamed rice
We made some strawberry muffins (from Vegan Brunch) for dessert...and I had two glasses of wine  :P

Other parents...chime in please?

My boomaroom ate:
First thing: Carrot-celery-apple-parsley-lemon juice (made in the juicer)
B: Batter Up Buckwheat Pancakes & Super Antioxidant Smoothie (both recipes from my book)
Snack (we went hiking): nori, organic grape fruit leather, some of my Clif nectar bar
Lunch: we went out to eat at the vegetarian sandwich stand & she got a veggie dog & Izze
Dinner: Creamy Polenta, Perfect Pinto Beans, salad w/ poppyseed dressing, chamomile tea, & sprouted tortilla

So it's been over a month since I posted in this thread (Amelia had her first food - avocado). Since then Amelia has tasted banana, sweet potato, millet, persimmon, pears, mangoes, peas, apples, acorn squash...I know I'm missing one or two. Anyway, her response has been pretty ho hum, and I've never gotten her to eat more than a teaspoon or so. I don't push it because I know she'll get there eventually....everyone learns to eat right?

But on Monday, she ate sweet potato again. This time I acted super, super excited. Very dorky....but she was thrilled and ate an entire portion (about 2 tablespoons)! Want to see a super cute baby and yours truly acting silly? This was shot near the end of the feeding 'cause I didn't think this feeding was going to turn out like this. Anyway, I'm a proud mama.

Yay!)

Baby, what were the symptoms of your daughter's soy allergy?

I am SOOOOO excited about this recipe I just posted. I made it today.....my little Lyle is the worst eater! All he wants to do is snack on cereal, cookies, and anything from a box. He even wants to do this after he has a super huge and filling meal! I have to keep all snack boxes out of his sight, or he goes mad! I do give him organic snacks, and cereal,  but still....

I have a hard time getting protein into him. One day he will love something and the next, he won't go near it. He does not like any vegetables that I know of. He does get a really healthy breakfast with lots of food supplements in it, and I give him live blue-green algae in his juice/water that is equivalent to 2 lbs of greens, so I think he will be OK, but jeez, I have a tough time feeding this kid!

So anyway, I came up with this super easy recipe (I had the beans leftover from another recipe) and he loved it! I did call it a cookie, but whatever works. He's getting lots of bean in him...if he only knew!

L2A, what an inventive idea!!! I just looked at your recipe.

I relate--my daughter is just the same--any da*n thing from a box, but if I make her something (other than a breakfast item), she rarely eats it. So frustrating! All her friends love my food, but she is incredibly finicky.

Anyway...I figure that, compared to what 99% of kids eat today, she's still ahead. At least, like your son as well, she's getting vegan, organic stuff for the most part and eating some veggies (and lots of fruit). I just look forward to the day that she'll enjoy more variety.

SO, for example...today she ate:
B: smoothie (pomegranate juice, blueberries, raspberries, & bananas) and toast (whole wheat homemade) with eb
S: raw veggies (I took a veggie tray to school for her XMas party) and a candy cane (yuck!!)
L: vanilla soy yogurt, whole grain crackers, fruitabu (organic fruit roll-up thingy), nori
S: noodles (whole grain udon) and tofu
D: cereal (Island vanilla kashi) with almond milk and dried blueberries

Not great on the variety today, but at least she didn't eat all the other junk at the Christmas party!! :P

B- Toast, black beans, pineapple and grapes
S- Carrots, hummus
L- Tofu and veggie stir fry w/noodles
S- Ginger molasses cookies (homemade) w/almond milk
D- Tomato soup, roasted cauliflower, 1/2 a tofurkey sandwich

L2A- when she was a baby and nursing (and I was still eating dairy, ans soy,) she would get blood in her dirty diapers....scary!...since then I became vegan and so she hasn't had dairy or soy in her system since she was a couple months old, her doctor reccommended blood tests for antibody levels of common food allergens and the soy was down, (I have always been hoping she could start to eat soy,) but when she had certain soy foods, (like soy milk, or tofu,) she would get raised red welts all around her mouth and face, and neck.  She slowly started to tolerate ezekial bread, earth balance, and foods like that for the past 6 months and just recently I have been able to give her a bite or so of tofu, and she has not had any symptoms!!!

Your recipe looks great L2A, I will defintely check be making it! Its hard feeding my daughter too, she wants to snack all day as well.  I love finding new recipes she may actually eat!

Today,
B-coconut milk yogurt
L-wwheat noodles w/ EB
S-tortilla chips
D-bean and veggie soup, ezekial toast

sometimes I feel like she eats the same 4-5 foods everyday, just in a different order!
