What did you cook/eat today: Parents and Kids Edition!
So...who's willing to share what their kids actually eat on a day to day basis? My little girl is 7 and in 2nd grade in public school IN TEXAS, so almost everything she eats has to be homemade. She just ate hummus on toast and two pickles for breakfast because I'm busy answering work emails. Oops.

She then proceeded to get a 102 fever. I was freaking pout about swine flu into the night.
((((NMPixie))))
Sweetie, my daughter probably got swine flu recently and it was no big deal. DON'T BUY THE HYPE! I, too, was concerned as certain peeps were telling me "Healthy children in our area have been dying from this!" But the truth is, I believe, that those children were not necessarily all that healthy to begin with. You see what most kids eat--meat, dairy, packaged garbage, & artificial everything. Their poor little bodies are maxed out, even though they do seem normal & healthy. I know, cuz I was one of them. I seemed like a healthy kid too, but my immune system was weak from the standard American diet I ate.
Anyway, sorry to go on and on, but I noticed your comment and wanted to help you not worry too much. Your little one will be FINE. Do you have access to some elderberry tincture? Or at least some echinacea? That will help, along with hydration.
For my daughter, she woke up dizzy & had a 102 temp. From there, it went up to 104! But after a few hours, it went down to 103 and stayed at 103 for about 36 hours (by far the longest she's ever had that kind of temp!!). From there, she was fine & back to normal very soon. I didn't take her to the doc or give her any meds other than herbal tinctures. She threw up a bit the first day, & was a little dizzy for a day, but overall it was no big deal.
Our other friends' kids had it too, and their symptoms were the same as hers. And their child's classmate had a confirmed H1N1 test, so I'm thinking that's what it was.
How is she feeling today???
Thanks, quintess! I'm taking her to the doctor later, because her ear is really hurting her, and she has a tendency towards earaches. I'm pretty sure it is h1n1, but she's past the worst. I was afraid to take her to the hospital, because I thought she'd get more sick from being there.
Yesterday all she ate was a scramble, toast, and a pumpkin muffin
now she's having some applesauce for breakfast.
nmpixie, I'm so sorry! :-[
Poor little honey, I hope she feels much better soon. You know when they're feeling awful nothing makes it better like having mama to dote on them. Sometimes I think Mia Belle fakes feeling sick because she knows I'll let her sleep in the big bed with us...
Anyway, she was out of school today for Veteran's Day so we did errands and had lunch out and then did some baking. It was fun!
B- smoothie, toast
L- Sesame tofu, spring roll, salad, rice @ a favorite Vietnamese place
S- Banana, tings
S- Leftover pancakes w/strawberry preserves
D- Love loaf (what she calls my tvp/veggie/nut loaf), asparagus, rosemary bread (from this site), roasted sweet potato.
We also made the pumpkin spice cake w/pecan crumble topping fromVCon today, but we were too full after that giant dinner for try it. I'd bet it will make excellent snackage tomorrow with some coffee...I think I need to simplify and eat just raw food and garlic greens soup for a few days. I'm feeling very heavy and weighed down after too much rich comfort food lately. Must...stop...baking...
Glad she's feeling better, NMPixie! Sounds like she's on the mend for sure. XO
Thanks, guys. She's doing better today. I don't know if I should tell her school, or if that would freak everyone out? I also have been baking my ass off lately, and it's beginning to show! Yikes! Today I'm taking a salad for lunch, and leaving the muffins at home. Have a great day, all.
Yesterday:
B- Pumpkin muffin, almond milk
L- samosas, pita chips w/hummus, berries
S- Tings, broccoli and bell pepper
D- Polenta w/marinara, roasted turnips, a few bites of salad
Today:
B- Yogurt, toast
L- Chickpea salad sandwich, pear, multigrain chips, two pickles
I'm making her favorite soup tonight (creamy broccoli cauliflower) and also need to use up some veggies from the FM. So...probably a giant salad is in order. This weekend there's a vegan chili cookoff in Austin! We're pretty excited.
B-"egg" sandwich
L/S-peanut butter and marshmallow sandwich, banana, yogurt, apple-walnut cornmeal muffin, clementine, granola bar, GOLDFISH CRACKERS >:(

D-probably a muffin, the other vegan girl at work made us some.
I can't contribute to this thread, but I really enjoy reading it!
Can someone please tell me what "veggie booty" and "tings" are? THANKS!

it was Kea's bday over the weekend! Fun party! I made a pesto-ish pasta salad, cashew artichoke dip, and oven fries, along with salsa, chips, veggies, and three cakes which all turned out lokking droopy but tasting good!!!! Actually made my frosting too thick, which is never a problem!
Cool ;)b
I need more ideas of what to send with my boy to lunch. I tend to fall into the peanut butter and "jelly" every day trap.. ugh.
Today he had:
B: Raisin bread
L: Celery, raisins and peanut butter to make his own ants on a log, carrots, pom-apple sauce, juice
D: Tacos (pinto beans, spinach, cheese and sour cream, taco sauce), apple
My 5 year old boy eats more than his father who is 6'4. ???
