What did you cook/eat today: Parents and Kids Edition!

So...who's willing to share what their kids actually eat on a day to day basis? My little girl is 7 and in 2nd grade in public school IN TEXAS, so almost everything she eats has to be homemade. She just ate hummus on toast and two pickles for breakfast because I'm busy answering work emails. Oops.

Yesterday:
B: vanilla Silk yogurt w/strawberries and blueberries. Chai for her, coffee for me.
L: Tacos w/black beans, spinach, salsa (avocado on mine), leftover rice
S: popcorn, smoothies
D: giant veggie stirfry (squash, broccoli, cabbage, baby bok choy, carrots, celery, green onion, garlic, snow peas) with tofu, steamed rice
We made some strawberry muffins (from Vegan Brunch) for dessert...and I had two glasses of wine  :P

Other parents...chime in please?

Today my daughter ate:
B-peach pie
L-chile lime crusted tofu w/ tofutti cheese sandwich on whole wheat, nori, cherry tomatoes, plum, tings(I send her enough food for her two snacks at school, too)
S-garlic sesame sticks
D-Too full to eat dinner so far, she'll probably wind up having pb&j toast for a "bedtime snack"

Cute idea!

Eta: She had whole wheat pasta w/ italian sausage and spinach, and white wine saucy stuff for dinner. Now probably a peanut butter oreo.

B: Hummus on Ezekial toast, pickles, pear slices (Coffee and a TLT for me)
L: Mashed potatoes, edamame, fruit salad
S: Luna bar, baby carrots
D: Homemade pizza: crust, tomato sauce, FYH mozz, black olives, bell pepper (the grown up version included eggplant and jalepenos, but she didn't care for it)

We also ordered the laptop lunch system yesterday because her old bento was sometimes leaky. I'm hoping this works better. Anyone have experience?

Great idea for a thread!  ;)b Hopefully we'll all get inspired...although my daughter's meals are pretty boring compared to yours! People think cuz I wrote a cookbook that our house is some sort of 4 star restaurant every day... ::)

So, today:
B-ezekiel toast w/ earth balance & a peach-mango-strawberry-blueberry smoothie
L-At our friends house w/o me: vegan cheese sticks (not totally sure what they were, but I trust my friends!), pb sandwich, tofu pocket (picked out the tofu and discarded the rest!)
D-soy yogurt, homemade bread, salad with poppyseed dressing

She'll probably get hungry later...not the best food day ever, but that's what we gots for today!
p.s. My daughter is 6

We visited my (omni but open) parents yesterday, but things went pretty well!

B: Strawberry muffins, almond milk
L: Tofurky slices, lettuce and pickles sandwich, kettle chips, grapes
(My mom and I made grilled asparagus, roasted pepper and red onion paninis for us. They rocked)

S: Ants on a log, more strawberry muffins, orange juice
D: Linguini, veggie-loaded marinara, sauteed spinach (she ate like 2 bites and asked for salad instead), way too much garlic bread
And for dessert my mom made a nectarine pie! I'm still full today from the total food overload.

In spite of eating a lot and having plenty of fat in her diet, my kiddo is still a skinny, skinny, skinny kid. Like, ribs that stick out in her bathing suit and might inspire someone to call CPS skinny. I realize a lot of it is genetics and a naturally high metabolism, but at 4' 2" she only weighs 48 lbs and she can't wear pants or skirts that don't have an adjustable waist. Anyone else have a little bean pole at home?

I wouldn't worry about it! The best eater I know (NOT my daughter) is skin and bones. She just has a genetic tendency to be skinny--her mom is a beanpole and eats way more than I do! My daughter eats a fair bit, plenty of good fats, and is just normal--not skinny or overweight. But she's way less "skinny" than her eater friend! That girl is great dinner company--she loves everything I make! I'm hoping it will rub off...

Today's plan:
B-oatmeal and peach-strawberry-banana-oj smoothie
L-salad, ants on a log, creamy polenta
D-baked potato (earth balance, salt, pepper), baked broccoli, sesame tofu

We have always had a hard time buying pants for my daughter because if they are the right length, the waist will be too big. She finally filled out a bit this summer. I think it just shows that they are active, and probably 100 years ago, most kids would have been thin?

B-Tofu scramble sandwich
S-apple cinnamon z bar and a clementine
L-cream cheese and tofurky on ww, yogurt, salad w/ lettuce, carrot, and cuke, raisins
S-ww pretzel sticks, tings
D-she is too full for dinner!

S: Baby carrots and broccoli dipped in hummus
L: Beans, rice, fruit salad, tortilla chips, salsa
S: strawberry, oj, vanilla silk yogurt and banana smoothie
D: Ate out at our favorite Vietnamese place! Veggie soup, lemongrass tofu, spring rolls and steamed rice.

I've had good luck with finding pants for skinny kids at Old Navy: adjustable waistbands a long lengths! We're having friends over tomorrow for brunch and are having a breakfast taco bar which is one of my favorite ways to entertain with very low effort. Tofu scramble, Gimme Lean sausage, beans, salsa and guacamole, sauteed mushrooms and peppers, tater tots, etc. Omni friends and kids love it  :)>>>

Hope everyone has a great weekend! School starts for us on Monday...

Yesterday we had our aforementioned brunch. We made a taco bar with ww tortillas, corn tortillas, tofu scramble, Gimme Lean, sauteed mushrooms and peppers, salsa, tomato, avocado, black bean and refried beans, plus a mountain of tater tots and a giant fruit salad. It was fun and good! The adults drank many mimosas and the kids had herbal tea and apple juice! Since we ate a LOT, dinner was pot stickers, edamame and berries.

Today is Day 1 of 2nd grade! Her new laptop lunchbox is super cute and easy to pack.

B: Multigrain waffles w/EB and strawberry jam, chai, soymilk
S: Baby carrots
L: Two veggie stuffed tamales, black beans, veggie booty, fresh berries and a fruit leather.

For dinner tonight I'm making enchiladas, but we'll definitely be snacking on mango sorbet for a first day of school treat  :>

Kids ages 1 and 8

We start our day out with E3Live, a fresh, blue-green algae. Just a shot (not the one year old because he gets it in his breast milk).

B: Cream of Wheat/Oatmeal with bananas (added ground flax seed, brewers yeast, nut. yeast, wheat germ)

L:  I seriously can't remember what we had. Oh yeah, couscous! Banana Bread, ???

D:  Vegan "Omelette". its more like an unsweet pancake filled with your favorite fillings. The boys had almond butter and banana in theirs. Its a favorite of both of them! I've filled them with pizza toppings before.  Or beans and salsa. Its a very easy and versatile meal.

I've been not feeling well, so I ended up just having a WW English Muffin with tofutti cream cheese and herbamare. Its about all I could stomach.

L2A, sorry you aren't feeling well! My allergies are killing me right now. Mold and ragweed can go to hell.

Yesterday:
B: Cereal, soymilk, apple slices
L: Sesame tofu, carrots with hummus, grapes, veggie booty
S: Ants on a log, cherry popscicle, orange juice
D: Smoky grilled tempeh, grilled corn, okra, iced tea

Today:
B: Toast, Silk yogurt, chai
L: Pot stickers, edamame, berries, sesame crackers

Tonight I'm making a couple of new recipes from the Vegan Yum Yum cookbook. Fun!

This morning, I whipped up some different pancakes (I usually use the recipes in my cookbook, but I wanted to try something new for once): I used 1 cup of whole wheat pastry flour, 1 cup soymilk, 1 flax egg (I call it "flegg" in my book), a little baking soda, baking powder, & sea salt. Oh, and 1/2 cup of soy yogurt. My daughter and her friend ate an ungodly amount of them!! They also ate a piece of 4:9 toast along with some mango smoothie. So, they weren't hungry for lunch. And, they are now at someone else's house for dinner, so I'm off the hook! Time to have some fun!! :D

p.s. Hope you're feeling better L2A??

thanks guys! I am feeling better! I think i had a 24 hour flu, or food poisoning. We went out Saturday to a party where I ate lots of vegan food, and drank no beer! I woke up in the night nauseated, threw up all my food...was in bed ALL day Sunday watching infomercials and sleeping. Threw up my grape juice (the only thing I consumed that day). Had a slight fever (101ish)

Woke up Monday and felt fine! It was weird. I hardly EVER get sick.

My appetite is slowly coming back. Its cool in a way because I think I lost my 5 baby pounds that was hanging on tight! Just in time for my HS reunion!  ;)
