I thought/remembered it to be much better, but it was boring, and quite tasteless.

I enjoyed the first starfruit I had. It tasted like a large green grape.
yep, when fresh and crisp they are delicious, and they add a pretty star shape which makes it taste even better. Five stars for starfruit.
I went to the store today looking for one, and my publix got rid of all their strange looking/shaped fruits. Darn them.

I agree, triSARAHtops! The Star is the happy one because he has a high level of confidence and knows his self worth. I can also tell from the picture that he ignores his haterz.
but perhaps he relies on his looks (star-ness) too much rather than being of any substance (taste).

Lemons can't help being sour by nature. Notice that the other fruits are smiling, but poor old Lemon...and his tough, bitter exterior is just hiding a sour heart.
Way back in the 30's or 40's the FL Chamber of Commerce wanted to market avocados as "alligator pears." Not surprising that the moniker didn't catch on.

I have only given starfruit one chance, and I didn't like it.
I wanted to, I heard good things... but I guess it wasn't meant to be...
I do believe that it would taste better in it's native land. :) I used to think that I hated pineapple, until I ate one in Thailand! It does make a huge difference if it has to be picked too early, shipped to far and left to sit and hope someone adventurous comes by to buy it..
I've only had it once, but I liked it well enough. It was halfway between an apple and alfalfa sprouts in taste, with texture like a cucumber. Probably would have been better local/in season, but not... horrible and watery and inedible.

I'd like to try starfruit for myself, but I doubt I'll ever get some good enough (i.e. grown in the right climate) to be worth my while.
My only starfruit exposure to date was a can of starfruit drink from an Asian food store... and it kinda tasted like sweat... at least, how I'd imagine sweat to taste... only not as salty. ???
