Starfruit is not really that great.

Discuss.

I thought/remembered it to be much better, but it was boring, and quite tasteless.

I havent had it since i was little. I know i loved it but i think that was purely for its name/shape

Starfruit dipped in honey makes bees cry.

Starfruit is so much better than mangoes, strawberries, avocados, and sex. I can't believe anyone would have anything bad to say about this amazing fruit. In my cookbook, every other recipe not only includes starfruit but is based around it. Even the soups section. This is really upsetting to hear bad things about starfruit. I am officially no longer going to post on vegweb. Goodbye. Forever.

Just kidding. Starfruit sucks, and this thread is making me laugh, smile, and feel happy inside. :)

I wasn't like "Ew gross make it leave" but I didn't really jump for joy either.

The problem with starfruit is that it's meh.

Traitor! Betrayer! Imposter!

Starfruit is never better; it is always bad. Starfruit is bad.

It teases us with its starry ways, but it's always bad.

yeah, but i think jackfruit is pretty crappy (but i've only had it canned), but my roommate says in Thailand jackfruit is friggin' ambrosia. And, I've had some pretty crappy coconuts from the reg store, but there are other delicious coconuts, plus extra delicious coconuts from their native land.

Either way, don't bother gettin' starfruit in anywhere that isn't south Asia.

Probably living where it grows so you can get it fresh makes a difference, it usually does. I've never bought it because it's super expensive, and the supermarket that sells it here is notorious for buying out-of-season fruits green, and selling them overpriced. So when you get them they've been in cold storage and taste like nothing. Not just star fruit, but chirimoyas (custard apple), tree strawberries, tamarinds and other exotica. In fact my husband once bought green-picked out of season fruit and found it to be still really too green to eat, and rotting. Bleah. Waste of money. Not to mention the carbon-footprint thing.

I enjoyed the first starfruit I had.  It tasted like a large green grape.  But the second one I bought was bitter.  I am sure it is awesome locally grown!
