ok, so I am totally going through a soup making phase. Since winter has crept up I am totally and utterly loving soup!! It is like my favourite thing ever at the moment.
There must be some other people out there who love soup as much as me. What are your favourite soups? Do you have one recipe you keep going back to?
Talk to me about soup!!
chili, AC's thai inspired soup, vegetable, practically any bean soup
oh yeah, also, mom's cabbage soup is good and so easy
and spicy corn soup. miso soup.....so many good ones
do you count chili as soup?
Oh pants, I'd forgotten about AC's soup, that may be my soup for next week. Recently I've been addicted to a VW recipe...Ang's leek and lentil soup.
eta: I shall have to investigate the cabbage soup.
I'm addicted to Colleen Patrick-Goudreaux's "Garlic and Greens Soup." It's basically a whole head of garlic, a bunch of whatever greens, and some potatoes. By the recipe, it's awesome, but it's also really easy to modify.I really like to sub a head of cauliflower for the potatoes. A couple weeks ago, I used kale and cabbage. I had no idea that would be so yummy! Sometimes I add Bacos and liquid smoke. Oh! Sauteed leeks too! Yum.
I'm obsessed w/ soup lately too!
I've been making all kinds, but especially into split pea & my new recipe for potato-green chili-garlic (which I recently posted on my blog).
I made some Pasta E Fagioli this week--it's not bad, but I'm not thrilled with it. It's one of 2 things I have yet to perfect in my kitchen--that and gingerbread cookies. Anyone have a great recipe for either?
You should make this: Potato Soup with Rosemary and Roasted Garlic
I'll be honest. I'm not a big soup fan usually. Butttttt
I really miss my dads split pea soup. Soo good (but it had ham in it =/)
I must recreate + veganize this.
I'm not a big soup usually.
Sometimes you ARE a big soup! ;)
I made split pea soup from...somewhere, and it was really good. I think it was from Vegan Table. I also love the garlic and greens soup, and lentil soup, and veggie/pasta/tomato soup, and chili........
I prefer soups that are fuss-free and contain few ingredients (preferably only one or two veggies). My current love is butternut squash soup. Roasted squash, salt, and pepper. That's it, that's all.

D'oh. typing fail.
I love soup, it's my comfort food. tonight I intend to make me a big ol pot of tomato and veggie soup. Basically cuz a bunch of matoes got overripe. And YG doesn't throw away food that isn't actually mouldy and smelly.
I love Sweet Potato and Veggie Chilli on here. You can add more or less broth or tomatoes in a can to make it soupier. Or indeed blend it.
I love autumn and winter, not least because soup is comforting and filling and something I can't eat in our fierce summers.
There's a newish soup thread here somewhere, dunno if it's here or in Chit Chat. Some ideas there.
Fat Free Vegan's Thick and Hearty Split Pea Soup is awesome, with a few modifications of course. I really love Sonya's French Lentil Soup that's posted here on vegweb, too, though I'm very intrigued by the leek and lentil soup you're obsessed with, shelloid, and want to try that soon.
Spicy butternut squash soup is always good too, but I need to chill out with eating so many orange and yellow colored foods! I've had entirely too much squash, pumpkin, and sweet potato lately so I'm afraid my baby might be born orange :P
yay soup! my goal this winter is to expand my soup repertoire. So far I've been making potato leek soup, corn chowder from VWAV (AMAZING!), the standard (and delicious) butternut squash soup, and the sweet potato with coconut milk soup from Jae Steele's get it ripe book (ALSO AMAZING!) And of course, chili!
yeah, I really want to try some sort of pea soup, not sure what type though....maybe pea and mint or maybe just a split pea soup. Decisions decisions!
I'll also put the corn chowder on my list, tino. I don't think I've ever had a chowder before, so that will be exciting :)
I've only ever made a butternut squash soup once and I found it too sweet. Maybe I should try a spicy one - that might help.
I <3 soup! It's great because in almost any case, it's either a quick-and-dirty affair, or something that can be thrown in a crockpot and left to take care of itself all day. Only the fun parts of cooking, without all the hovering and standing and hurry-up-and-wait. And usually fewer pots and pans and things to clean... And that's aside from eating the soup! Soup and tea are pretty much the best comfort foods I know. They're so warming. I've had first-aid instructors tell my time and again that hot drinks are no good against hypothermia, and yet on the (several XD) occasions I've found my core body temperature plummeting... soup and tea to the rescue!
ETA: Shell, my favourite thing to do with butternut squash soup is let the squash mostly stand on its own, but season it with just a little bit of garlic/ginger, and then add some coconut milk. SO CREAMY. Spicy would be good, too - I think that sweet pumpkin-ey things go well with the flavours of Thai and South Indian curries. :) Oh - and there's a recipe for black bean and butternut chili in Vegan Planet I could dig out and pass along - haven't tried it, but it LOOKS delish.
Ah, soup! I love it! At least right now I do. I've actually got Andy asking me not to make soup for a while. I guess I burnt him out.
My faves?
AC's Thai soup
Chick'n and Dumplings (Clouds)
Hearty Corn, Chili and Potato soup
Garlic and Green's soup from The Vegan Table
my Garden chili
the list could go on forever....

Not to toot my own horn ::), but: http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=26101.msg277478#msg277478 ;)b
I could actually go for some of this right now, except I'm in the wrong hemisphere for soup. It's hot today with 80% humidity. I need some ice cream.
Deja vu... I thought I had replied to this post, but it turns out there's a similar thread here: http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=30576.msg358933#msg358933 Since this is the official soup appreciation thread, I suppose I must reiterate my love of soup here. :)
My favorites:
- PPK's sweet potato, black bean, and brussel sprout chili (SO good)
- My butternut squash soup quick-fix...I just throw a box of pureed butternut (often labeled soup, but really it's just pureed butternut) and two bags of frozen veggies (mix of carrots, asparagus, zucchini, onions, and green beans) in a pot and let all the flavors meld together with some spices. I usually add in black pepper, garlic powder, sea salt, and a few shakes of chili pepper.
- PPK's Snobby Joes made soup style... I tweak the recipe a bit by adding in a can of diced tomatoes, some extra vegetable broth (if it's still a bit thick), and extra spices. It's like an ultra hearty, tomato-y, lentil soup.
I love soup! My grandma used to make this really good soup with northern beans, ham, potatoes, bacon, salt, pepper, and chicken stock. It was so good! I veganized it with northern beans, no beef stock (or chikn whatever I have), fake bacon or tvp with liquid smoke, potatoes, salt, pepper, some fresh herbs, sometimes kale. It tastes fantastic!
I think everyone is in love with soup right now because of the weather, I certainly didn't pick a good time of the year to give up cooked food, I'm craving soup! (Maybe tomorrow) Even though its not "soup" I like a simple tomato blend with fresh herbs, and a few random veggies, Its raw and gives the illusion of soup. I dunno but still tastey!
