Lunch guest
I've mentioned this around the forum....but Patrick and I are having a lunch guest this afternoon. The filmmaker of BLINDERS (posted in the events forum) is going to have lunch with us. He's from NYC, and contacted me initially (through Myspace) to help him publicize the local showing of BLINDERS. So, he wanted to take us out to lunch to thank us..but I decided I would much rather just cook for him! He's going to walk over from his hotel (2 miles), and we're going to have a picnic on a...'grassy knoll' by our apartment. Here's the menu:
My basic guacamole with multi-grain tortilla chips http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=22104.0
Polynesian salad with curry dressing (I've been wanting to make this for a while!) I already made the dressing...and it tastes great.

Banana black beans (love them) http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=18538.0
Brown jasmine rice with some coconut milk and chives..maybe some mushrooms
Simple baked tofu (in slices with a bit of a different marinade-they are marinating right now) http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=10789.0
Coffee cake from JOVB
The funny thing is..I thought of this menu (some of it), and asked him if there was anything he didn't like/allergic to (he's vegan)..and at first he said no. Then later he said that he didn't like olives, or...BEANS. I was like uhhhhh. I knew I could think of a different menu, but these beans are so good! So, I asked him if he would be interested in trying a bean dish (didn't tell him what), and he said yes because he REALLY wants to like beans....apparently it's a texture thing. SO, I really hope he likes them! We are having lunch at 2:30, and the showing of the film is tonight at 6. :)
Sounds good to me! He should be very gracious considering you cooked him a fab meal and helped promote his film. Don't let him get all hollywood...Have fun at the film fest!
He seems very gracious...I would much rather cook than go to a so-so restaurant.
I'm actually now thinking that I might not do the cake....I was looking at the recipe again, and there are a lot of ingredients (cutting down on costs..I've said this 45 times now haha). There are lots of fruits and such in the salad...
What do you think????????
ooooh can I come over too? looks yummy! I think you are fine without the cake. With the cake, it seems like too much food!
I'm sure it will be fine with no cake. It is still an impressive menu without it.
Yeah! I'm glad we are in agreement. ;D :)>>>
I just noticed AC, are you eagerly counting down to your 1000th post....only like 20 to go! You should sneak in later and post a bunch of lolz.... >:D

haha, yeah I'm excited to join the club! I think I can get there pretty quickly posting my regular amount though. Like...tomorrow? I dunno!
Girl, with that lush spread, cake would be excessive! IMHO of course. But then I'm not a cake person unless I'm feeling depressed, which fortunately doesn't happen much now my thyroid meds are working. I'd eat fresh fruit any day over cake.
This is totally off topic, but AC, I think you'd make a fantastic caterer, or chef at a small vegan restaurant, or something. Seriously.

good luck w/ lunch AC!

:) :smileside: Thank you so much! I think I would too...and hopefully that can be done someday! ^-^
Ok, so it went really well. I dished up all the food and we carried it down and up to the picnic table. It was nice meeting Donny, and he seems like a great guy, and was very appreciative. I think he liked everything (but still has some bean texture issue-can't get over the "pasty" factor..). The film was of course very sad..and I'm now in a weird mood, but we had a good day. It was PERFECT outside...actually quite hot, but still nice. It was a bit awkward trying to take pictures of the food...and I didn't get a chance to really get one of everything (forgot about the salad-with dressing...), but here's what I took:
The whole meal (minus the great curry dressing)

Maaaan, that coconut rice looks lush! *whine* I have gotta try that!
Ok, now I'm starved! ;)
I'm glad it went well. I think it was a great idea that you made the dinner. I agree with Laurabs, you should have your own catering company or your restaurant. ;)b
that looks so delish and pretty with all the different colored bowls and being outside! what fun!
:)
yg, all I do for 'coconut rice' is cook up some brown rice, add coconut milk, this time I also added mushrooms while the rice was sauteeing/cooking, season it, and add chives, and that little coconut on top! ;)b
:)>>> you all!
Oooh, looks like so much fun. Beautiful pic of the table set up!
I love picnics! I want to have a fancy one now...mine usually consist of me and my kids on blanket with some fruit and pb sandwiches...I need some grown up vegans in my life!
I welcome you into my life, VS!
If I can fit you in..since I now have 2 jobs...which I've never done in my life...
I think this is my 999 post btw ^-^
Thanks, AC! Now all you have to do is persuade your hubby to relocate to the Midwest (they have great computer programs....)
Let me know when you are coming. I'll plan a picnic! :)>>>

As for the jobs, congratulations! I would try them both out and see which you like best. If Sears is paying more I would try to get as many hours as possible from them....but VS(note that VS is also my initials...sexy coincidence, me thinks) might be more fun.
