My cat keeps "yelling" at me!-Update Number 2
I know this is kind of stupid/funny to post but...I don't know what is up with her lately. For the past couple of weeks my sleep has been terrible because my cat keeps meowing really loud in my face. MEAH! MEAH! I'm sleeping and she's just standing next to me and MEAH! It sometimes scares me because she is so loud. It's always about an hour or two before my alarms goes off. It's not because she's hungry because I keep food out for her all the time and when I go to feed her in the morning there is always food still left in her bowl. Then by the time my alarm does go off she is sleeping next to me and if I "disturb" her by moving she yells some more. And not just once or twice. She'll yell with each move I make as I'm getting out of bed. It's really getting annoying and I'm about to ban her from my bedroom.
I think she needs a boyfriend. ;D
The good news for Wilma is that the people at the vet's have a self-assured way of handling animals that puts them at some ease, I think. When do you get the results back?
About a second cat: Cat doesn't like other cats. Some cats are just like that. If Wilma is the same way, it'd be more stressful for her to have feline company, and definitely stressful for the other cat, getting jumped all the time.
When do you get the results back?
I should get the xray results back today. I'm waiting for the doctor to call me. Maybe they will wait and tell me when I pick her up after work. The blood test results may take a couple of days.
I got the results of the xrays. Good News: The doctor said she didn't see any crystals, stones or blockages. Maybe Not So Good News: Her kidneys are apparently very "odd." Instead of smooth, kidney shaped kidneys, she has small, round, rough edged looking kidneys. So she has to get an ultra sound at a specialists in order to get a more clear picture.
Also I'm afraid what I thought was her being lazy from the heat may be something else. She is laying down a lot. Like taking a couple of steps and then laying down. When I brought her home I opened the carrier and she took 2-3 steps out and then layed down. I bought her a can of tuna which always gets her excited and instead of rubbing around my legs and pacing back and forth meowing her head off she layed on the kitchen floor and meowed. Should I call the vet back tomorrow and mention this or should I wait for the ultrasound? Could this be kidney related or something else entirely like arthritis? My poor kitty :'(

How old is your kitty? I'm curious to hear why her kidneys looked mis-shaped, I've never heard of that :( I'm so sorry, I would be so worried too... I hope your kitty will be okay. Usually a kitty meows because it wants something I think.....instinctually a cat meows to its mother to convey a need (i read that in a book anyway). I've had sick kitties before and they don't even meow because they just don't feel good/don't have the energy. In my experience a really sick cat withdrawls and hides. Maybe the meowing is somewhat good because she feels like communicating???? I would probably call the vet tomorrow just because I'm a worry-wort but they might not be able to tell you anything until until after the ultrasound.
Did they do a blood test. From what I've learned with Cat is that there's scar tissue buildup with kidney failure, so there's only so much recovery possible. It's better to catch it earlier than later. When is the ultrasound?
I'm actually not sure how old Wilma is. I've had her for three years but she was a stray. My vet estimated at her first visit that she was about 4-6 but after these tests we think she may be much older. They did a blood test for ionized calcium and I think parathyroid hormones. The ultrasound appointment is for Thursday.
I watched Wilma carefully last night and she is still jumping up on things with no problem. When she is walking to something like her food or litter she doesn't stop to lay down. But otherwise she does. It's a bit weird but I think I'll wait to see what the blood tests and ultrasound show, since I should find out this week, and then mention it to the doctor.
Wow, mdvegan, how in the world do you keep up with the litter box for more than 6 cats!? It is hard enough for 2 cats, which is why I refuse to get another one, or keep a stray that I find.
Biodancer: I agree with everyone, it seems that your particular cat is better as an only cat.
I hope that Wilma gets better, it doesn't sould like good news what you say. Cats are notorious for hiding their sickness and looking fine when they are not. I would be really worried too if I was you.
The mdvegan cats send love and good vibes... (I could only get six in the photo!)
How many more are not in the photo? ;)
So Wilma's ultrasound was this afternoon. It's pretty much bad news. Her kidneys never properly developed. It's just her makeup/genetics. Rather than being normal sized, healthy kidneys she has small, shriveled, kidneys. Plus they are in the process of degenerating. There is nothing that can be done to fix it. All I can do is ease the stress on her kidneys. He didn't say how. I have to discuss that with my vet. Her life span will be shorter than normal. How short depends on how fast her kidneys are degenerating. She could go on for a good long time. In the meantime she is thriving so I'll treat the symptoms as they come up. I've already switched her to Avoderm canned food as her primary diet rather than the Evo dry food she was eating. I'll meet with her vet and discuss what's best for now. :'(
In the meantime she looks pitiful with her belly and sides shaved from the ultrasound. I know that's going to be itchy as it grows in.
(((((biodancer))))))
I'm so sorry to hear Wilma's diagnosis :'( I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that she'll keep on going strong and that you'll both have plenty of good times together.
So sorry to hear about Wilma! Whatever you do, don't let your vet talk you into the Science Diet k/d food. It's crap. The AvoDerm will be good for her. Make sure she gets lots of wet food since the moisture will help her kidneys.
Keep us updated! (((wilma and biodancer)))
Knowing what you're both dealing with is the first step. Keep us updated on what the vet recommends as a treatment.

Definaltey make sure she gets a lot of moisture. AvoDerm is a good one, so is California Natural and Felidae. Any "whole" food brand is good. Whole food cat food meaning they don't use fillers and/or mystery meat....it's 'human' grade quality I guess is what I'm getting at.
another trick (although water wasteful) is if you turn your sink faucet on to a slight drip or dribble, the kitty is interested and will come drink out of the faucet. I do this sometimes only when I'm in the room so I can shut the faucet back off when kitty gets bored and leaves. it can also be quite entertaining too!
I finally have all the supplies to make my own cat food so I'll let you know how that goes.
What did you buy to make your own cat food? I'm intrigued... ^-^
i should get a cat fountain. our kids would have a great time playing in it. but i think it's cute to fine little wet footprints all over the sofa/bed/everywhere
DO IT! They LOVE it!!! My cats particularly enjoy moonwalking on the counters with wet paws. ;D
My coworker just suggested this to me as well. I tried this with Wilma a couple of years ago but she didn't like it. She would only drink from it if I unplugged it. Thinking back now it was a little loud, and maybe the noise from the motor scared her. I should look into a different brand.

A cat vitamin (Halo), cod liver oil, kelp granules, egg white powder, lecithin, bone meal, veggies, and some meat (turkey and fish). I got the guidelines from Dr. Pitcairn's book
Oh, ok! I have that book. Do you think it will end up being cheaper or more expensive than a high-quality cat food (EVO, Wellness, etc.)? Also, are you buying pre-cooked meat or cooking it yourself? I totally hate the smell of cooking meat, but I've thought about putting it in a crockpot-type thing on our porch so it wouldn't stink up the house.
*hugs* for Biodancer and Wilma.
I just got a fountain for my two this weekend. So far I am not sure if they are using it or not but it is quiet and the water pours down a little ramp smoothly. Got it at the grocery store for $29.99. The Pet store sold it for $52.99 Ugh!
