I don't know if this thread should be here or there, but I thought the subject matter could turn controversial, so I put it here.
Has anyone seen this movie? I don’t get it. It’s supposed to be this great funny movie, but the main plot is about teenage pregnancy. This seems like a serious issue to me, not something that should be made light of. I just don’t see how this can make for a funny movie. Someone please explain this to me.
It made me laugh and cry. I think I was the only one in the theater laughing for about 15 minutes about the "blue shit". So dead pan. So funny.
I just want to know, is this a super breeder-centric movie?
Like, is there a scene of her actually giving birth?
Because this seems like a cute movie BUT I can't deal with childbirth-related stuff, at all, which is one of the million reasons why I don't ever want kids. I have tokophobia and am likely to have a panic attack just thinking about it.

The most graphic part of the birthing scene is seeing the baby all gooey right after it's been born. That and the generic pushing and grunting. So yes, there is a scene of her giving birth. :-\

Yes, there is a birthing scene, but it's definitely not "super breeder-centric". It's like a whole 5 minutes of the movie, and I hate birthing scenes too because of the way childbirth is portrayed, but it's not distracting from the movie itself. Don't let that deter you!

Yup, me too. Not many people understand this. I never knew it had its own word.

It's WAY less horrible than "Knocked Up". They never show the baby actually being born, as KissMeKate said; just the gooey baby after it's born for a bit. You could close your eyes, that's how small the birthing scene is in relation to the rest of the super fun movie.
"Dad? Either I peed my pants or my water just broke!" ;D
Okeydokey, after all the hype, I watched the Juno trailer just now.
Looks cute! I can avert the eyes and cover my ears during the birthing scene.
But doesn't it seem like Ellen Page took acting lessons from the School of Christian Slater? Same nearly sarcastic sounding, tired way of speaking as if out of the side of their mouth. Its cute, not complaining, but they sound exactly alike.

I don't know guys, I just can't get past that this is a movie about teenage pregnancy & there is nothing funny about that. At least I know I'm not alone in my thinking.

I can see where you're coming from. It's not necessarily funny (the pregnancy itself) but it's the stuff around it, how she deals with it and how she talks about it.
It's sorta sad, in parts, and I suppose in general, but overall it's funny... maybe not necessarily funny, but humorous?

Yeah, and it's not really like "Hey, Juno's 16 and pregnant--that's HILARIOUS!" The humor is in the awkwardness of high school kids, relationships, becoming interested in sex, quirkiness of families, etc. I also liked that it showed how being pregnant in high school is rough and kids are jerks and it makes your life harder, but it isn't the end of the world either. It makes you realize who really cares about you and will stick with you no matter what. I don't think that it makes light of the situation or encourage teen sex or pregnancy.

Very eloquently said, KB!
OK, Thanks for clarifying! I guess I understand now
YAY! My mom called me at the buttcrack of dawn this morning (11 am) to ask me if I wanted to go see it with her!
The waiting games has paid off, unfortunately I shall now endure a lecture about the evils of fornication and knowing looks of "see what Juno has gotten herself into" throughout the movie - but I think it will be worth it
I think at one point Juno says "I'm a precautionary whale."
That
Cracked
Me
UP!

totally. that part was so funny! and there was another part, around that same "day" in the movie where someone goes "wow, that shirt (Juno's) is really working hard" and that also made me laugh, although it was so quick you had to be a rabbit to hear it. Or something with good ears.
I've been listening to this soundtrack for two days. It's SO GOOD! I really like the song from the opening credits and "Vampires" by Antsy Pants, though every song is great.
It is a cute soundtrack.

It was Mark, Vanessa's husband, that said that. I thought that was a great line--we both must be rabbits :bunny:
That was such a good movie!
I was laughing way more than anyone else in the theater, especially at the punk band name drops.(But the dude that plays Dwight's cameo was the best part)
