DEODORANTS

Hi, I'm really new to being vegan, and I'm hoping you can help me with finding a vegan deodorant. I've searched everywhere, and can't find any. Except online. Any ideas where I can find one ? Original Source used to do deodorants but not sure if it was vegan, I know their shower gels etc are.

try Target - the ones by me (california) now carry Toms of Maine, Kiss My Face, and J/A/S/O/N. They would be cheaper at a Trader Joes or maybe even a Whole Foods, but when you live more or less in the middle of nowhere... it's a good option.
Also, Mitchum is made by Revlon, who doesn't test on animals. However, this doesn't mean much about the ingredients being vegan or about the naturalness/environmentally-friendliness of the product.

eta: I didn't realize you are in the UK, how nationalist of me (is that the right word?)

Hi Begbie.....yay another UK vegwebber!!  Try Holland & Barrett - the one near me has some toiletries and that's where I get my toothpaste.  Alternatively just try to look for your local independant health food shop.  I've found they're much better at toiletries than H&B generally.
Also, I think that some Sainsbury's have started stocking some Tom's of Maine stuff which is vegan - at least the one near me has, but I live in London, so I guess their range may be bigger than Rotherham.

Hmm hope that helps....and once again yay! (and welccome!)

You can usually find toms of maine at walgreens and cvs too.  I keep some on hand for "emergencies," but I usually just use a little baking soda...if anything at all.  I know it sounds weird, but I think I remember a few other people on here saying the same this too...once I stopped wearing commercial deodorant, I stopped sweating as much.  Oh, and since going vegan, my sweat doesn't smell as bad...anyone else notice that?

I use baking soda, too! Just keep some in the bathroom, spoon some out, mix it with a few drops of water in your hand (or not), and smear it on. You will still sweat, but it won't stink.  ;)b There's even a "recipe" on here for it.

I've had it with deodorant.  I currently use Secret brand aluminum-containing deodorant of death.  I feel bad, but none of the natural deodorants I've tried have worked.  I can't be a smelly teacher.  And I SMELLED the few times I tried natural deodorant.  I don't know what else to do.  :'(

trader joe's brand makes an awesome aluminum-free deodorant that i think is also fragrance-free, so it doesn't interfere w/ whatever perfumes or oils you may wear, also no risk of breast cancer  ;)b

The most vegan deodorant= no deodorant.

I use the crystals too.  All the natural brands made me smelly.  The crystals usually work fine as long as you actually apply it to your underarm and not just skim it.

I've been wearing Tom's of Maine, but sometimes when I've been working out, or a few weeks ago when I was doing alot of painting, I could smell my BO!  In my field, I get so close to people, I can't be be stinking!!!  I might have to go back to terrible regular deodorant :'(

We can feel bad together....I use it too....I think I'm addicted to Secret, because nothing else works....I absolutely hate to feel sweaty....maybe I'll get over it someday

Thanx for your suggestions, hopefully I'll find something that suits then. I'm an hairdresser and when I've got my armpits near someones nose I get a bit self consious, lol. I'll def try the baking soda 'deodorant' sounds like a good way of saving money too. I'm not a sweaty person, but in the summer with the hot hairdryers I do tend to sweat a bit. :-[

Been to Tescos and found one, ok, its a blokes deodorant, but smells nice and not too strong. Its Original Source. £2.35. It'll do 'till I find something else.
And its vegan.

Yea I've had problems with non-commercial deodorants too... Lush powder deodorant didn't seem to work, the crystal stings my underarms horrendously and doesn't work that well...recently I've been not wearing any, and while I agree that I don't sweat as much or as smelly as when I was non vegan and using commercial stuff - at the end of the day in this disgustingly hot summer I can still smell me, which isn't ideal. I'm still searching, will try a few more things before I give up.

I don't use deoderant unless it's summer, or I'm going some place where I'm really worried about stink. Then it's commercial, because it's what I have access to. The baking soda thing I haven't tried, and my mother buys me deoderant at Costco, so it'll be a while until I need it anyway.

Same here, I only use deodorant if it is summer and I am going somewhere. Sometimes I use just a scented natural body powder, sometimes I use a spray.

I test so many deoderants and am still trying to find a good one! I am going to stay tuned to this one!

haha.  deodorant and antiperspirant are different.  Deodorant masks the smell, while antiperspirant stops the sweat.
Most deodorants, you still sweat, so you might notice more sweat at first.. I did, but that went away (as long as I'm not running around a lot. or on really hot days, but who doesn't?)

I don't think its a very healthy thing to block your sweating... you kind of go through detox when you stop and sweat like crazy for awhile.
weird things.

What works best is if you remember to use your product of choice.

I forgot this morning and just pedaled my 10 miles, now I must go shower again.  I r Smelly!
