Bought some great little containers to take my lunch to work.....

I know someone was looking for lunch ideas because there was no fridge at work or school.  I found these on line and picked them up at my friend's when I was in Michigan last weekend.  Haven't used them yet but will start using them tomorrow.  We do have fridges at work but they are always so full and some food items have been known to disappear.  >:(

Here is the link: http://www.theconsumerlink.com/fitnfresh

I got: http://www.theconsumerlink.com/fitnfresh/detail/TCL+210FF/12

Then I went a little wild and got these:

If they work great, my next trek to Michigan, I will order these as well:

or these: http://www.theconsumerlink.com/fitnfresh/detail/TCL+224FF/12

Anyway, might be prefect for someone that wants to keep their food chilled but has no fridge readily available at work or school.

I may have to check into some of these.

My hubby bought himself a couple of the lunch-on-the-go containers. He says they work really well, so I hope you enjoy your new containers. :)

nice! i usually use the laptop lunch 'system'(http://laptoplunches.com/), but these look great too. please report back on how the warm soup container works.

if anyone likes to bring cereal to work/school, i recently purchased this: http://dormbuys.com/index.php?action=item&id=784&prevaction=category&previd=8&prevstart=0
i like it! and it's pretty cheap too. you put the milk (i use almond) in the bottom insulated part (which you freeze first), and it screws into the top part which holds the cereal and a spoon.

Wow those are some cool containers.  I like the one for salads.  That is always a problem bring salads to work because if you put the dressing on ahead of time then the salad gets all wilty and gross.  That one container was a good idea.

But as far as warm food, why not a thermos?  I see thermoses at Goodwill for like $2 everytime I am in there.  I never get one because I have fridge and microwave at work, but those seem like a good idea.  Is it because they are old fashioned and these containers here are new and cool?

The laptop lunch system looks great as does the cereal container. Until I read the word cereal, I forgot I also got a cereal one.

http://www.theconsumerlink.com/fitnfresh/detail/TCL+230FF/12  It is quite nice.

I don't like eating first thing in the morning so bringing cereal to work for breakfast is a much better idea than skipping breakfast.

wow, looks like you've got everything covered, Di! your cereal thing is a nice size, mine holds only 1 cup of cereal or whatever. it's fine, but the 1/2 cup extra room would probably be nice. good call.

i'm not against old fashioned! actually i just checked out thermos' website and they do have some cool stuff on there. i never really see thermos in the store, though. i like how the one di posted has a bottom part for "crackers" and a part for the spoon right there too. i'm interested to see how long it will keep soup warm for. i do have microwave access at work, but it kinda skeeves me out.

Yes, the cereal one is the one I am most excited about.  I love Nature's Path Optimum Power Flax, Soy Blueberry cereal.  So high in fibre.  10 grams per serving.  So now I can have a healthy breakfast.  I still put milk in cereal and am freaked by warm milk.  I am going to make a valiant effort to try different non dairy milks in my cereal.  I do love chocolate soy milk but I don't think I would in cereal.  As well, I have been buying a little skim milk in the little restaurant downstairs.  $1.10.  I buy organic milk and would so much prefer bringing my own.  As well, if I find a soy or almond milk I like, not available at the restaurant.  The size of the cereal one is good because there is room to add fresh fruit to the bowl.  A cut up banana or fresh berries.  If I could have only bought one, that would be the one.

I bought the containers because it is so easy not to bring breakfast and lunch to work.  Then you end up spending money on not so healthy stuff as their isn't much around our office and we only get 1/2 hour for lunch.

I am also not opposed to old fashioned things either and I do have some thermos products.  Readily available in all stores here.  I find them bigger and clunkier.

I thought if I had fun, brightly coloured breakfast and lunch containers, I might actually use them.

I am not a huge soup eater in the summer but a couple of you want me to test it out so next week, I will make a soup and test it.  We have 4 microwaves in our kitchen at work but it seems we all take lunch around the same time.  People bring stuff that needs to be heated for 10 minutes.  We have lots of people.  There goes the 1/2 hour.  We also have fridges and it is not to say I won't put some of the containers in the fridge.  There are just some days there is very little room.  Lunch bags now are huge and everyone has one!

These products were not the cheapest but with care, I am sure they will last me forever.

I am trying very hard to eat better and to also save money.  Hence bringing my food to work at least 4 days out of 5.  I have lost 10.8 pounds since January.  Not a huge loss and I still want to lose another 15 to 20.

Now that summer is here, there are so many fresh and healthy things to eat.  These containers are so cute and innovative.  If it helps me motivate to bring food to work, then the price is worth it.

They do ship to Canada but shipping was way too high.  So I plan things like this around my visits to Michigan when I visit my friends.  I ship to them.  The day before I was coming home, the box arrived.  I would have had to wait until the end of July to get them had they not shown up then.

As for the soup test, I leave home at 7:20am.  I take lunch at noon.  Possibly it might need a little zap in the microwave.  I don't like using plastics, even if they are deemed safe in a microwave.

Well, I have rambled, haven't I?

Nice!  Having good containers to pack your lunch in really helps you get excited about sitting down to a healthy lunch, I find.  :)

i like the optimum power cereal too! it's also got a ton of protein for a cereal. it's funny you mentioned chocolate milk because the optimum power is one of the only cereals that i like better with chocolate almond milk (as opposed to regular almond milk). so it might be worth trying your chocolate soymilk in it.

also, it is getting a bit summery for soups-- definitely don't try the soup test just for me! + congrats on being and eating healthier!

eta: re: the optimum cereal, i might have been thinking of the Optimum Slim, but i've definitely  had the Optimum Power and remember it was good.

OK then, I am going to try the chocolate soy milk on my Optimum Power cereal.  I have never seen the Optimum Slim in Canada.  Will look for it the next time I am in Michigan.  Right now, I get a huge box of Power at Costco.  Way way cheaper then a HFS.

I never liked drinking milk as a kid.  Never liked drinking milk ever except one summer when I worked in a golf course kitchen.  The kitchen was stinking hot and they had a machine where the milk came out ice cold and frothy.  When the summer was over, I never drank another glass of milk.

I just like it on cereal. Funny thing, my sister never liked drinking milk either.

As for soy milk, Canada has a great brand called 'So Good'.  I like it way better than Silk because although I like chocolate, I don't like it super sweet and Silk was way too rich for me.  Guess I am sweet enough already!  ;D

Well, if I don't try soup next week, it will probably be the fall but I will definitely report back.

Thanks for cheering me on for trying to eat better and more healthy.  I still eat cheese and have made huge strides in cutting down greatly on it.  Probably another reason I have lost some weight although I thank the weight lose mostly on Cali, my dog.  She has more energy than I can fathom so keeping her active means keeping me active.

It is funny about food because without realizing it, I have cut down a lot on dairy and eggs in general.  I buy organic eggs as I still do eat eggs as do my critters.  I just found out a good friend of mine has pet chickens, fed organically and truly free range and I can now get my eggs from them.  They had 45 eggs the other day and didn't know what do do with them.  They sell them for $2.50 a dozen and that just goes back into buying good feed for them.  I pay $4.99 for organic eggs at the store.  I can honestly say there goes a few weeks where I don't eat eggs and then a week where I eat them a couple of times.

Now that I know they are coming from happy, healthy and loved chickens, I feel much better. My friends also have a pet turkey named Tom.  They also have his wife.  Tom sleeps on their deck at night on a lawnchair and his wife sleeps under it.  Am going to visit their place for a weekend this summer.  Can't wait to meet all the critters.  I said Cali and I would sleep on the deck with Tom and his wife but they mentioned they do have a guest room and I might be more comfortable in it.  I honestly don't think I have ever been up close and personal with a turkey.

Anyway, I have two months and a week until I am diving with sharks in the Bahamas.  I need to lose more weight and get more fit.  Hopefully my new pretty containers will inspire me to do just that.

Oh, what store can you get Optimum Slim in?  There is a Trader Joe's near my friends and a Whole Foods.  Or is it readily available in US grocery stores?

Thanks again.
