will roasting mashmellows with a lighter hurt me???
Ive wanted vegan marshmallows since....well, lets put it this way.....when i went vegan two and a haf years ago, i was living on a diet of sugar-free jello, marshmallows and fat-free whipped cream (i was told gelatin was synthetic and was nieve enough not to further research it...) Well, upon going vegan, i learned gelatin was NOT vegetarian and gave it up....have been wanting vegan marshmallows ever since....i knew i could order them off line, but ever did cause....well, it doesn't matter why....i always look for vegan marshys and FINALLY found some...."sweet and sara" or something like that? At whole foods in the refrigerated section....not sure if they are loca or what....
so...i just toasted three over an open flam....ummm....a grill lighter. You think im gonna die of lighter fluid poisoning? ???
I guess we'll find out??
The marshmallows will probably taste kind of funky, but they won't kill you. Did you think about microwaving them or toasting them over your stove? Even if it's an electric burner, it would probably generate enough heat to toast your 'mallow.

alas, i am a char-roaster, not a warmer... ::) I thought about the microwave just to see if they would grow like the other marshmallows. And I wished we didnt have one of those flat surfaced electric stove-tops so that I could roast it there....I roasted some over an unscented candle....hummm....okay....i need a camp-out! ;D
An unscented candle?!
Wow, you're really committed to marshmallow perfection!
I hope you get your fix ... ;D
I've roasted Sweet & Sara over a gas stove. It gets burnt, but not quite the same as campfire.
I'd say consuming sufficient burnt residue will probably give you cancer no matter what, wood or methane or lighter fluid. You may as well... you have to make up for all those vegan anti-cancer foods.

I also have an electric stove and have used it to roast marshmallows before. Just turn the heat to relatively high and let it get hot then just put the mallow a few inches above and rotate.

haha, exactly!
I roasted marshmellows with a lighter throughout my childhood (with adult supervision, of course). I'm not dead yet. I think you'll be ok.
i live!
and none the worse for wear.... :D
I have used my broiler to roast the mellows, I am an avid toaster. Just pop on a skewer and roast!!1
I have used a candle many times, and I'm still here!
I'm gonna play devil's advocate here, and say yes, it will hurt you, and you just might die. >:D
No, I'm kidding.
