What is your worst vegan Nightmare/Reality?
Let me explain.....I thought mine was the time that my parents came and my mom made my dad a deli turkey sandwich on MY kitchen counter and then opened my cupboards and silverware drawer with her turkey greasy hands......but then....this happened:
When we bought our house out of state, we coudn't move yet financially, so we decided to rent it out until we could move. We hired a company since we were out of state and didn't know anyone. We desperately needed the money, so we were on edge hoping they would find someone. I got a call a couple days later saying they found 2 guys to rent it. I found out later that they were managers of a HOOTERS restaurant! All I could think about was wing sauce and the subsequent poops they would be making in my toilets. I really thought there would be sauce all over the counters, etc....my husband thought I was being crazy :o
Well, when we finally saw the place after, my vegan nightmare had come true. The kitchen was filthy dirty, and when we tried to wipe it clean, our towels were orangish. We actually got rid of a nice wooden stool because it always felt sticky even after we cleaned it! They did some other damage too like breaking windows and doors, but by far the worst of it was thinking of their disgusting wings in my kitchen. We are in the process of replacing the counters and floors, btw. (and I replaced all of the toilet seats).
ALso, the neighbors tell me there were people in and out all of the time! Party house for the Hooters!
Lesson learned: never rent your house out to Hooters guys (or girls) even if you are desperate for money.
So, my worst vegan nightmare/reality is having "Hooters Guys" rent my house!!!! UGH ! Can you beat that?
i also decided not to go into the peace corps for this reason. and it's apparently some serious buerocratic bulls**t to deal with.
reading about the husband and teacher sneaking meat into peoples food is really making me sick. like i'm going to cry and puke. if a teacher told me she snuck meat into a vegan kids food i would punch her. break her nose and lose my job, and be labeled an not a very nice person extremist.
i agree. i wouldn't want to have anyone like her as a co-worker. no one knows how to respect other peoples beliefs and opinions anymore. everything is just a personal threat to them (kinda why i am staying away from that 'why veggies are stupid' thread, people keep talking about how meat eaters are 'stupid.' stupid? really? i could see less healthy, lower will power, or less compassion, but STUPID? why would we stoop to that level?).

So I was totally applying for the Peace Corps next semester. I figured there had to be SOMEwhere they could send me where it would be semi convenient to be vegan. Is this really that big of a problem? I would really like to know more about this......
Hmmmm ... I must say, I have absolutely zero nightmares or worst reality situations. I know my family has tried to give me soup cooked on chicken bones, etc. But, I know not to trust them, so I always make my own food and invite them to have some. I don't take it too personally either. I mean, it sucks that they can't be understanding but my grandparents and aunts are living in a TOTALLY different culture than I am where vegetarian or vegan is too bizarre to contemplate. So, I don't really hold it against them or let it bother me.
But, beyond that, I don't really have any situations where I'd be uncomfortable. If someone tricks me into eating meat, shame on them. I simply don't trust them any more. End of story.
Though, I must say ... maybe I'm just not up to such a level of commitment, i.e. if I had my dream job offer come up, and it was in an impossible to be vegan place ... my dream job would trump my diet. I mean - it's my dream!
Some of these stories here are really horrible, though. :(

mine isn't even a 'dream job' -- i don't even have a dream job (wait, maybe i do, but that dream job is working in a vegan/raw restaurant - i know i am dumb to have this be my dream job after four years of higher education, whatever), but that would mean it would be possible to be vegan. there you go.
wait, i got off topic. not a dream job but just somewhere that i think would be cool to experience. i mean i would only beable to stay somewhere a maximun amount of time if i wasn't properly fed. and i would probably be grumpy >:(.
