Spanish, how to make a good empanada, creative writing
I'm an NPR junkie, even though the reporting has gone a bit wonky over the past few years. At least Lynne Rossetto Kasper is vegan-positive on The Splendid Table.
I was in speech until I aged out in the 4th grade because I had a hard time with English. I tried to learn Spanish when I lived in Fresno, but my friends were from different areas of Mexico, Central, and South America and they'd tell me I pronounced things wrong. They told each other they pronounced things wrong, too, because of dialects. It'd be ultra helpful for my work, though.
Three things I don't understand
video games
road rage
why people feel the need to be rude all the time
All of these. (a) The last video game I played was Frogger on Atari when Atari was new to the market. That was plenty. (b) I used to get road rage until I started commuting, when I was cured of it. I don't understand how people maintain that level of angst for hours a day. (c) I find people who are always rude to be utterly exhausting. Luckily, people usually aren't rude to me, but I feel bad for the people who take it.

We should make one of those travel pacts - if neither of us has a travel partner by a decade from now...

This sounds like it could be fun. If we stayed in this country, I've always wanted to go to the small towns to hear their stories.
I'm intrigued by this Nanowrimo. I tried to find all the info on their site. You have a month to write a novel?
-Josh
That's what I want to do! I've always thought it would be cool to take the back roads in the US and get out and go to a coffee shop or something and talk with the locals.
For Nanowrimo, you write a short novel (50,000 words - more of a novella) during the month of November. I tried it a couple of years ago, but couldn't think of a story to write about. If I had an idea, I think I'd be able to finish. So, you write a story and then upload it to their website. They don't read the story, they just do a word count to see if you cracked 50,000 and then send you a certificate of completion.
Yes! That's exactly what I've always wanted to do..visit towns that have 200-500 citizens. Get to know the locals, their history, the history of their town. And obviously we would document our adventures with photos and writings.
small towns with a nanowrimo angle - I like the way you think.
P.S. - My first degree was Production (tape), but my first love was photojournalism.
Ohhh? I like the possibilities here. There might be an actual book here..not just a certificate of completion. Ha.
