NVR Happy thoughts for Cathie

I'm going to retake my driver's test (again) tommorrow :-\ and I REALLY want to pass.

So any advice, tips...etc would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

Tip: Don't run over the person giving you the test!

LMAO...definately a good tip!

Just drive the speed limit and watch for all traffic signs.

Just drive the speed limit and watch for all traffic signs.

...then make sure you do what the traffic sign says....lol

Also, don't forget to buckle up and adjust your mirrors as soon as you get into the car.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Just relax  :)

Pay attention to the other cars around you and try to forget that there's someone next to you grading you.  You'll do well - good luck tomorrow!

Paper or driving?

My friend took her driving test and didn't pull into the bike lane to make a right and immediately flunked.  Check your DMV book for that one.  Drive like your great-grandmother would be proud and you'll do fine.

Driving, driving test... Apparently I have to parallel park, do a three point turn, and back  up in a straight line... Gah it sounds sooooo easy... dumb nerves

Well, keep in mind it won't be too bad.  They're not going to put in a position of taking out several cars.  They're going to find a decent area for you to show your stuff.  Also, it's not a timed test.  Sure, it shouldn't take five minutes to parallel park, but you don't have to rush it like you're late to a U2 show, either (U2 being the most worthy reason of rushing it on a relative scale, of course  :D ).

I hope everything goes great for you!  I'm sure you'll pass with flying colors.

This discussion brought back memories of my own driver's training.  I went to a school where driver's ed was part of the regular curriculum.  The first 9 weeks was just book learning and first aid.  The second nine weeks included more bookwork and first aid, 4 saturday obstacle courses and 4-5 road drives with our instructor and 2 other kids.  We were the only school in the area that took driver's ed for so long and our accident rate was 90% lower than the other schools.  What's funny is I don't remember having a "road test" to get my license.  It went in order of permit with parent, permit with any licensed driver and then a written test on my 16th birthday.  And since I had a softball game on my 16th birthday I had to wait 5 days to get my license which at that time was a major tragedy.  :D

My DH says that "hearing" a piece of classical music in his head (A little Night Music, Mozart) helped him feel relaxed and "flow" through the exam.

I don't drive, can't drive...long story! I can tell you if you're interested.

Good luck on your driving test today :) I'm sure you'll do fine.
I remember taking my driving test (a long, long time ago ;D) & being so nervous because I had never parallel parked before. It turns out, parallel parking is not that hard & I slid my car into the open spot. Even the instructor was impressed & asked if I parked like that every time. I was honest & told him, nope, that was the first time I ever tried. 8)
Relax during your test & remind yourself to breath :) Let us know how you did.

Weeellll...in highschool I was extremely nearsighted and absent-minded. Also, since I was the "identified patient" of the family, I think my mother probably had a word with the school officials; the upshot was, they didn't even offer me Driver's Ed.
On to college, and my advisor told me I HAD to learn to drive, given we lived in the Midwest and he who has no wheels does not travel anywhere. I was placed with a teacher who taught people to teach driver's ed, for special one-on-one classes
Only since he didn't want what he percieved as a weeny job, half the time I would walk clear across campus in the snow, and there would be no one there. I learned pretty much everything except how to parallel park; he took me through that a whole once, I think, and left it at that.
Since I was an adult, I had to do my test with a police officer instead of the regular instructor; my "teacher" parked the car (a bottle green Ford Fairlane) and when I got to the test, he had parallel parked between two cars. I never got it out of the space!!
I failed my driving test in a parked car!!

I was so hurt, embarassed and angry--I felt like he had set me up to fail, because he knew darn well he hadn't taught me to do that properly. You're only allowed 3 mistakes...I decided to let it go, drive with my mom on my learner's permit and then retake the test "next year"; but by that time I was living here in Sevilla, where we have reasonable busses (and taxis if you really need one). Driving schools are business here, and it costs booooocoooos to get your licence. Almost no one passes the first time round. My erstwhile best friend spent about 2 grand on hers, she had to retake the practical test twice.  Is it a racket? Yes, definitely.
