I miss...

I thought we could use a post like this. List the things, the people, the whatevers you miss. This could be as simple as saying "I miss my TV show..." or "I miss him/her/it..." I'll start.

I miss traveling. Last year I took two trips and I loved it. I loved going to the different airports, riding on the planes, and arriving at my destination. I always loved airports and their energy...even though last year I had to sleep on the concrete floor. Haha! So yeah, I miss traveling.

I miss not needing a reason to be happy.

Courth and Minke --

First, I'm sorry you feel this way.

Second, I've been there. But I've learned that sometimes there are no "reasons to be happy" needed just as there are sometimes no reasons needed for other things in this world..it just is what it is. Sometimes things are just a choice. If you choose to be open to the happiness (while being smart about it), you will be rewarded with true/life-changing-for-the-better/plentiful happiness.

I hope that makes sense.

Yeah, Josh is right...sometimes you have to make a reason. Or find one. Or invent one.
When things are bad in here, I sometimes fixate on some exterior thing (the way the light falls, a shiny toy windmill in a shop window, a flower I walk past) and focus sharply on its beauty for a few seconds or a minute. Block out everything around you, focus on that. It creates a quiet space within.

...living in Europe, well...sometimes, but not all of it.  I really miss my friends in Holland, the architecture, and reliable public transport.  Having moved to San Antonio for work, I'm just not meeting people here very often and it would be nice to build a circle of likeminded people.

Costa Rica....Pineapples fresh off the tree....and sitting down with 7 year old Rosita with dictionaries so that we could try to communicate with one another.

HAHA my bad. Bananas fresh off the trees. Pineapples grow from this.... strange...spiky  bromeliad type plant from the ground. I always forget they grow out of the ground because I denied it for the longest time.

Acorn squash. When I was a kid and they were in season and cheap, sometimes for dinner we'd just eat squash with marge and salt and pepper. Each of us would eat a whole squash. They don't have them here and I don't suppose they ever will. The Butternut is a recent arrival.
Sigh.

Yes! I've been thinking about acorn squash recently. I miss it too.

I denied it too, and it seriously blew my mind for the rest of my vacation to have actually seen them out of the ground like that.

I learned about pineapples from Rosemary and Thyme the murder series, but I didn't wanna go all pedantic on y'all in case... ;D
The word "pineapple" comes from the Spanish word "piña" which is used interchangeable for pinecones and pineapples. The spiky appearance, rough exterior and shape made them apply the same word to the fruit.
I love them but they make my mouth bleed through the skin because of the acid. Scary. Yabbit's little gore homemovie!!

I know I already mentioned this but it's still something I miss. I miss traveling. That is, traveling by plane. I need to go somewhere soon.

I miss people using brains and smarts to figure out problems. I miss when the world wasn't overpopulated with robots and drones and people asking me to tell them what they should say/do/think. I miss having an actual conversation with people. I miss these conversations having substance with layers. I miss when substance was not limited to stats and figures..it was fully understanding the topic at hand. I miss people understanding that sometimes there are 3-dimensional answers because sometimes it's not black and white..the world has a lot of gray. I miss when going out into public was not such a drain on me. I miss when I didn't write gigantic paragraphs with no break (like I just did). I miss having someone in my life that understands all that I've just rambled during my current frustrations. I miss being oblivious to the fact that I've not met that person.

Currently I miss being able to breath with that whole "nose" thing that is currently just a parasitic, stuffy impostor of it's former self.

I hear you! Eli Whitney should have carried that whole "interchangeable parts" thing one step farther. Can you imagine the Frankenstien and Whitney Co, purveyors of fine noses?  ;D
