i am in need of assistance (dinner)

Hi everyone!
I'm making dinner for my mom for her birthday. She definitely wants a berry pie for dessert (i'm thinking strawberry/raspberry). Our SO's will be partaking, all 3 are omni's, and I'm vegan. (I only cook vegan food, they're aware of this and supportive).
Problem:
I need an entree to precede this berry pie. I'm contemplating lasanga, but not sure how well that will go before berry pie. I want to make one dish, relatively simple, and not obviously vegan (ie. italian, stir fry, etc). Can anyone give a suggestion of what to make to precede a berry pie?!?!? Something better than lasagna? Because, everyone loves lasagna.
help me?
Whatever it is, don't use an animal analog (like vegan cheese) because although they might taste good to us, they won't to an omni.
I recommend penne pasta and a salad. I like penne because it's less likely to splash on your clothes. I'm thinking of a recipe something like: http://www.mensfitness.com/pasta/nutrition/healthy_recipes/141.
For the salad, check out: http://allrecipes.com/Recipes/Salad/Main.aspx. There were some people on here talking about how good spinach and strawberry salads are. There are a lot of good-sounding salad recipes on the allrecipes page.
It took a while to finish my post. i'll amend my comment about analogs. Veggie burgers are generally good, but I think that's because they don't try to taste like meat. You could make that with corn or asparagus and a potato or green salad and maybe a sprig of grapes or something.
Pasta with a mushroom sauce! Put in plenty of sliced shrooms of choice (or a mixture)--sauteed from fresh. I recommend chopped oyster mushrooms mixed with buttons or portobellos. If your people will eat peppers (not like my DH, grr grr), chunks of red and green bell pepper will make the sauce really good. Use the pasta sauce of your choice, tomato based. Garlic bread is up to you. A nice salad on the side, with various greens, a grated carrot, maybe some cucumber chunks...and then your berry pie. Nice, light meal for a summer's day.
Iced tea made from scratch with lemon on the side....yum.
veggie meatball hero with coleslaw as a salad.
Hi, I'm really sorry to barg in guys. I'm here because this thread was up top and I wanted to ask you guys how do you make a new post? I'm clueless about it! :P So far I only figure on how to reply! ???
That pasta with mushroom sauce and garlic bread from Yabbitgirl really sounds good! :)
I would also do a spinach salad, in my spinach salad I add rasberries, avocadoes, mushrooms, bell peppers also, lots of tomatoes, canned or fresh mandarin and almonds on top but you can add whatever else you want. I normally don't add onions if I add fruit though...
