i've been having a problem with trying to gain some weight.
a year ago i was overweight and this year i lost a WHOLE lot and now i'm kinda underweight.
my mom is worried about me a lot since i'm about to start band camp in a few weeks.
(i'll be in the sun for 4 hours marching.)
not to mention in TX. over 100 degrees.
it's great exercise and i have to worry about eating enough now so i don't loose anymore.
so this is what i need help with:
we have to pack our own lunch for band camp and the only thing i can think of taking is a PB&J and i'm sure that's not enough food.
an ideas for me?
thanks lots, <3 ;)
Nuts and seeds yay... lately I've been packing a sandwich (hummus & carrot or PB&J), two pieces of fruit, a little tuperware thing of nuts, seeds and raisins, and a homemade larabar... the larabar is compact but full of goodness and some healthy fats and calories, so great for packed lunches. I put dates in the food processor, then add to that about three times as much dry stuff -- ground almonds, cocoa, coconut flakes, oats, flax seed, anything like that. I also add a couple dabs of peanut butter. Just form it into bars, delicious. (Takes some elbow grease to work the dry ingredients into the dates.)
thankyou thankyou! i might try that. sounds good.
yeah, I posted about this a bit ago. I never really followed through, but thats another story. My problem was that If I ate a "normal food" to gain weight then I will forever associate that food with weight gain and probally avoid it. I dunno if you would have the same problem. I did a lot of looking around though and found a soy protein powder at TJs..I had planned to mix this into soy puddings or icecream to gain, but as I say...never got around to it so I'm not sure how it would have come out. Here is the thread, maybe someones comment will help you.

I will say however, that it would probally be a good idea to talk to you doctor at this point. Losing so much weight so rapidly really isn't good for you. :-\ If you are eating as little as just a PB and J for lunch it sounds like you maybe restricting your calories too much. Try throwing some fresh veggie sticks, an apple and something sweet in with that lunch in addition to the sandwich. Also, 4 hours of marching equals 4 hours of exercise. SO you should maybe eat a snack at somepoint too. Cliff bars are yummy and healthy. vegan too. Have fun at band camp!
i love cliff bars!! and odwalla bars!!
i have those for breakfast with soy milk.
oh and sorry for the misundertanding.. i wasn't just going to eat a PB&J, i just wanted to have some ideas with what else to eat with it.
and i have talked to a doctor. they all say the same thing.. eat some nuts.
haha. i'm not much of a nut eater. they all tell me to eat almonds, but i don't like the after taste.
peanut butter
avacados
eat a bunch of those vegan ice cream cookie bars, they pack 300 calories per serving
enjoy having to go the other way, Ive never had to even think about that
How about some healthy fats from avocados and from olive oil? The nuts come in there, too but you've already heard that.
You can make an avocado sandwich with sliced avocados, tomatoes, red onion, leaf lettuce, whole grain-type bread smeared with dressing made form vegan mayo, dill weed, and a bit of lemon or lime juice mixed in. Delish!!
Homemade guacamole to eat with tortilla chips.
Pasta tossed in olive oil with avocados and red bell peppers.
Salad greens with grapefruit segments and avocado slices with poppy seed dressing.
Look on the Recipe page for "Avocados" under "Various Veggies," "Mexican," and "Pastas" for more ideas, too.
Have fun at camp!

Cephi, I love making homemade Larabars! After I process the dates for a few seconds, I throw everything else in the processor. Takes less "elbow grease" and seems to work well for me.
Chickpea, I did the marching band thing through HS and college...I feel your pain. I always struggled to get enough good stuff to eat in the heat, but that was before vegweb. These people have lots of great suggestions!
Hey! My husband is a veg-band director! I know he would advise lots of water....I will ask him what else, but I am sure he would probably consult me anyway. I would bring some almonds....sprinkle with water and salt them and then roast for 5 min at 300-yum! add some flax or hemp oil to your smoothie in the morning...hmmmmm......forget pizza day! Most of the band kids eat pretty unhealthily (in these parts anyway). Nuts are the way to go..and trail mixes! Good luck, and don't forget the water. His band camp start in early august. Most of his kids are overweight-Be glad you don't have that problem!
