I have never even heard of these things. Elbert, GA is about a 3 hour drive from me...I may go check these things out sometime soon.
I will have to investigate this a little further to give you my honest opinion on it.

I think it's all a big hoax. I don't believe the 2012 thing is going to be the 'end of the world'. If any of that is true, it's supposed to be an event that changes the way mankind thinks, not the destruction of the planet. But hey, if you want to believe a culture that thought sacrificing animals and loved ones would bring a better crop harvest, then be my guest.
However, we have no real way of knowing when the world will end, other than looking to the cosmos and watching for giant meteors like the one that struck the Yucatan peninsula millions of years ago. Man is not killing the planet, man is dirtying it. After we have killed ourselves off and we are gone from the Earth, the planet will cleanse itself in about a million years' time, which is really no time at all for Earth.
Please excuse my cynicism. ;)
You seem to have a healthy level of cynicism, CK. And I'm not so gullible myself. ;) I don't by any means think the world is going to end i.e. be destroyed in riots, fires and floods. I do however put some stock in the notion "the end of the world as we know it"... the last four words being key. The world, or our perceptions of it, may drastically change sometime during the coming decade. Which is probably a good and necessary thing!
After all, if the world decided she'd had enough of the humans and wanted to chuck us all off or swallow us, well, we wouldn't be alive to learn anything from it, and do better next time, now would we? ::) Just mah two cents sense.

crushed them up and put them in the cookies with the chocolate chips. I just posted the recipe.
