Antivirus, antispyware computer stuff

My computer is effing up and I need to download FREE antivirus protection. Any suggestions? I can also buy the Norton stuff but can anyone tell me if its worth it or is it comparable to free downloads? I'm really bad at this stuff so any info would be great.

Malwarebytes for Malware scans.
