Going South of the border
I am planning on visiting a friend and her boyfriend in Lafayette, Louisiana in November. I have two weeks vacation (and more weeks of unpaid vacation), so instead of just going from Moncton to Lafayette, I would just take the train with some kind of unlimited pass and make many stops down the East Coast. I have been to New York before, but that's the only place I've really visited in the States, so I am kind of excited.
So basically, the point of this thread is just get ideas of what to visit, what to do. My planned stops right now are Boston, NY, Philadelphia, DC Atlanta, and of course, Lafayette. The reasons I picked those places right now, it's because they are on the train route. :) But I'm a pretty resourceful person, if I feel that the wind is blowing towards another direction, I will manage. Besides, everytime I make plans, I usually end up doing something else.
I love meeting new people, listening to new music, going to shows, hang out in coffee shops, parks or in bars. So if you got advices, tips, I'm all ears or eyes. ;)
yé! cupcakes!
I'm two hours from DC/Baltimore Metro. Lots to do in the area - vegan, historical, artsy, etc. If you want to head a little farther west, Deep Creek Lake is a nice resort area for hiking, waterfalls, boating, swimming. I know plenty of restaurants in the greater DC area and I'm always looking for an excuse to go! ;)
I'd be glad to be an excuse. ;)b
And I live in the Lesser DC area, so I'm game for a meet-up as well. MDvegan, have you been to Great Sage in Clarksville yet? (I know that's still a hike from you, but not as much a hike as say, Vienna.)
Yes, and I adore it! I've been three times, I think, and each time is better and better. Haven't been to Mango Grove, but we have vegan dosas at a couple places in Langley Park (as long as you don't order one with paneer, obviously), including my favorite Indian restaurant, Udupi Palace.
Yay Atlanta. That's my neck of the woods. They're supposedly upping security on Marta, so it should be okay.
There are so many things I want to do. The way things are going, I am definitely going to need more than two weeks. 8)
My goal is to travel on a budget, so youth hostelling and couchsurfing will be the way to go for me, I think.
I am really excited right now. It helps keep my mind off work! haha
