Cafe Sunflower in Atlanta...

Saturday I got to try my first v*gan restaurant since becoming vegan...my wife and I went to Cafe Sunflower ( http://www.cafesunflower.com/ ) it was INCREDIBLE...the people were so nice and so accommodating, and the food was "Oh My"...I was very impressed. :)
I had the Jamaican Black Bean Cakes (without the sour cream) and my wife had the Portabella Mushroom Wrap. The Cafe Sunflower will definitely be one of my regular eating stops. If anybody in the Atlanta area knows any other "to die for" v*gan restaurants let me know...always looking for great food and fun places to go.

I just checked out the website. It looks amazing. I'll have to check it out sometime. I've never been to a veg*n restaurant, so i don't have any to recommend.

I hope you do try it, it is very good. If you go there sometime in the future, see if you can find this thread and let me know what you thought of it. :)

Yay!  I'm glad to know they're still around.  That place was my favorite when I lived in the ATL.  I  lived at  Roswell & 285 and left over 10 years ago, almost walking distance; if anyone actually walked in Atl.  I'm not sure you could without getting run down  ::) . Are they still in the same location?  I'm down that way a good bit...

Do they still have the veggie pot pie?  OMG, amazing, life changing (and probably more sinful that I care to know).

Oh I have such wonderful memories of Cafe Sunflower! Bookmama, Bookpapa, and I used to eat there occasionally before I moved to Boston. Everything they have there is delicious, but my favorite was a salad they had with fresh asparagus, granny smith apples sliced super thin, walnuts, spinach, and gorgonzola cheese (pre-vegan days) with some heavenly dressing....mmmmmmmmmmm.

There is another restaurant in Atlanta that, despite not being 100% vegan, has many amazing options for veggies, vegans, and omnis. I haven't been there yet, but my parents and sister and even her omni boyfriend consistently rave about it. Can't wait to try it out when I go home for Christmas!

Hey nutdragon, they're in a little shopping center at the corners of Hammond and Roswell Roads...Whole Foods is across from them across Roswell, is that where you remember them being? The owner was so nice. I'm not sure about the veggie pot pie, I'll have to check the menu. If they still have it I'll try it and let you know. :)

And did your wife go vegan with you, or was she already?

It makes such a difference being with a veg*n versus not.  My boyfriend is in the process of becoming vegetarian, which shocked the hell out of me.  Never thought it would come to this, but happily it has!

I can SOOO not believe that I just wrote a whole long reply and something happened to my wifi connection and when I hit send .......I lost it!!!!  #&^#&^@&@^&*  AGGGGHHHHH!!! Don't you HATE that! >:(

Well...here goes again!

Cafe Sunflower is really good. I usually have lunch there, then hit Whole Foods, then go to Trader Joe's (which is across from Whole Foods on the other side of Roswell Road). If you've yet to go there for shopping it's a great...
Cafe's pad Thai is awesome! I make pad Thai all the time and it never comes close to theirs.
There is also another Cafe down in Buckhead. I tend to go to that one these days. The Whole Foods around the corner is one of the best I've ever seen...it's HUGE! I'd say at least 3 times the size of the Sandy Springs one. There is also a Trader Joe's in Roswell on 140 heading towards Cherokee County. It's newer and nicer as well.

Nutdragon,
I don't think they have a pot pie any longer. If they do, maybe it's only served for dinner. I've yet to see it...would love it if they DID have it!

i have to agree with Celtcat and Bookmama that the R.Thomas Deluxe grill is awesome as well. I definitely think you should check it out.

More places:
There a new place in Atlanta...Power Plant. It's vegan and organic, but kind of hit or miss. They don't always have the same stuff each time. They kind of make up the menu as they go along.

There's Soul Vegetarian in Virgina Highlands that's a great place. It's a very hip "ethnic" place.

Also try out Harmony Vegetarian on Buford Hwy. It's a vegan Chinese place with lots of "mock meats"...trust me...I've brought many omni's there that could not tell it was fake meat...and most have gone back on their own.

A great reference is: www.happycow.net

It's worldwide, and reviews, directions, etc. Great for all your travels.

Hope that helps! :)

My wife is... "in the process" of becoming vegan. I'm not pushing her, I think she is almost there anyway. She eats primarily fruit for breakfast as I do and I cook dinner so she eats vegan then. She works in an office with a lot of other women who are omnis, so at lunch she still strays there. She is definitely seeing the benefit of being vegan though.
I can't push the AR issue with her right now, we are both pretty headstrong and neither one of us will hear "preaching" that we are not ready for. But she's coming around.
She thinks what I'm doing is great.

Thanks Davedrum, I'll have plenty of new places to try ;D I can't wait. It's all so exciting. I never imagined vegan food could be so good until I actually became vegan and began experimenting. It's like a whole new world has opened up to me. I know it sounds corny, but I really do feel like I just started living again. :)

If you like Chinese food, go to Green Sprout. It's near Piedmont Park.
