weird food combinations that are so good!

Often not enough to be a recipe, I'd love it we could share some of the weird and unexpected food combinations that we love.

Here is my recent favourite: roasted chickpeas in cereal (they are hard and crunchy)
;D

Bookmama, that doesn't sound weird at all, that sounds DELICIOUS-- like cheesy grits, right? Makes perfect sense! In fact, I'm thinking that could be a great breakfast for this very cold week, and I have all the ingredients on hand. (I'm also thinking some horseradish, which to me, just BEGS to paired with grits.)

I LOVE avacados straight up with a little salt and pepper. I didn't do this until I went vegan and discovered how so dang yummy they are  :D

Right now, I'm lacto-veg. I was hungry and lazy, so I made a grilled cheese with pickles slices inside it. I don't know why I did it, but it tasted really good. This works great with dill pickle slices.

I won't eat a grilled cheese sandwich without pickles!  Big garlic dills... oooh my mouth is watering!

ditto!! And thinly sliced onion. soy or rice cheese

An old time favorite of mine, is Strawberries with fresh cracked white pepper, basil, and balsamic vinegar.  .

It is sweet & tangy all at once.  Great alone or atop a nice salad.

Peanut butter topped with molasses and sprinkled with nutritional yeast on toast or english muffin (I learned of this somewhere on vegweb and now I love it too!). Packed with nutritional punch and great for expecting mamas!

Yeah, I couldn't remember what type of vinegar it was supposed to be.  I actually tried the balsamic and strawberries yesterday for the first time.  Soo good!  Who woulda thought.

Grits with soy sauce and nutritional yeast (don't knock it 'til you've tried it--it's really very yummy!) :)

So, I needed a snack today, so I thought I'd try this. Yum! I used quinoa instead of grits because I didn't have grits and I had some plain quinoa already cooked in the fridge.  I also added a smig of Earth Balance.  Delish! Thanks for the idea!

hummus is also great on cooked quinoa, just mix it all up with a spoon and dig in!

When I first saw fresh mangoes with chile powder, I was a little hesitant, but I have to admit it's kinda good.

In desperate times, I ate ketchup on sliced white bread.

Maybe not so odd I suppose, but damn tasty.

In my more desperate times, I'll eat mustard on anything. Even off the back of a spoon, if it came to that.

I used to eat mustard and relish sandwiches.

I do that.  Mustard on toasted wheat.  MMmmmm.   ;)b

I don't ever have sweet snacks in my apt...like pre-packaged stuff, and I don't crave it often.  But every freakin now and then I get this wicked sugar craving and there's nothing here.  It's been so bad that I have been known to eat a spoonful of brown rice syrup.   :o :winktongue:

I've also put maple syrup on toasted blueberry bagels - but that's not really weird.

My dad taught me to eat creamy peanut butter on corn on the cob and just recently I started eating pb with carrot sticks too. :)

Oh no, I have to hide your post from my husband, ABrimmer... he's insane for peanut butter. I think he would eat PB on anything. Me personally, I can't stand it unless it's mixed with chocolate, but that's just me.

I had no idea that there were so many other mustard-addicts! I thought it was just me and my dad. Whenever I make a loaf of bread, that's how I taste-test, by slathering it with mustard and trying it that way.

Peanut butter with anything sweet is we-e-ird to me... I gotta say it once... y'all are freaky  ::) :P ;)

Must be a cultural thing?
