I just had tempeh for the 2nd time ever. I put it in vindaloo curry with sweet potato, carrots, broccoli, and red and green pepper (or capsicum, depending where you're from). Not super authentic, but really yummy. I love vindaloo.
I should really eat tempeh more often. :)
i used tempeh in a salisbury "steak" recipe last night from vegan dad. it was RAD. i've never really liked it before, but i've also never boiled it before using it, which i guess is key.
tempeh is my favorite protein! i use it in almost everything i can.
TLT's
tempeh rueben
stir fry
fajitas, quesadillas, or tacos
tempeh salad (like the kind from whole foods)
bbq temeph (add coleslaw in a wrap, its delicious!)
tortilla wraps with hummus and veggies
tempeh kabobs on the grill
I find that tempeh makes a good sausage or ground beef sub. It makes a killer (scary authentic) sausage for sure!
Tempeh rules.
I love it.
Ok, so I picked some tempeh up from Wegman's the other night and want to make it for dinner tonight. I read that you have to boil it for 10 mins, which I didn't do the first time, so I am excited to try it again.
So are there other simple yummy favorites that I can whip up for dinner tonight? I would perfer to use recommended recipes rather than just pick one out of the recipes from here. I want to know for sure that I like tempeh before experimenting.
Thanks
I love tempeh too. I use it to make reuben sandwiches and substitute avocado for swiss cheese and my own sauce instead of 1000 island dressing. My sauce uses some veganaise, sriracha, and diced pickle. I've never had a real reuban but this is yummy!
I've never had it at home without stuffing it between bread so I would also be interested in recommended recipes.
tempeh reuben!!!
marinate the tempeh (braggs or tamari, garlic, onion, caraway, etc) and then pan fry. then make sandwiches with rye or pumpernickle bread, sauerkraut, soy thousand island (vegannaise, pickles, ketchup, lemon juice, capers, etc) and you can add fyh mozzarella or a tofutti slice. but you won't miss it. then spread both sides with earth balance and grill like a grilled cheese. you will fall in love with tempeh!
I tried tempeh for the first time yesterday at a cafe/restaurant here. It was on a TLT! delicious.
I love tempeh! Haven't had it nearly enough lately.
Tempeh reubens are my favorite! Also, for those of you who have Planet Subs near you, there are tempeh options available even though they're not on the big menu on the store. I got a Tempeh Parmesean hold the cheese, and had grilled tempeh and tomato sauce on a roll. SO good!
(Thanks to Vegan Eating Out for ensuring my creation was vegan.)
I need to give tempeh another shot, i had it once and didnt like it (but i had no clue what i was doing cooking it)
I make the tempeh fajita recipe that is on the package of the tempeh I buy and it's good, but I should really branch out and try some other tempeh recipes.
how long does tempeh last? the closest store that carries it is about an hour away. if i stock up. get like 5 packages of tempeh, will they last a month staying in their packaging?
You can freeze them. I'm not sure how long they'd last in the fridge...check the expiration date.

The expiration date is always like 3 months later than they date I buy it.

I have eaten tempeh that was over a month past its expiration date.
The best tempeh recipe ever is Spicy tempeh and broccoli rabe with rotelle from Veganomicon. It is pretty much the best thing I have ever eaten.
I bought some frozen tempeh last week, the first time I had seen it in this country (England), but haven't decided what to do with it yet.
What is it like? Is it a meat substitute, like Quorn? Or is it more like tofu?
If you were going to try using tempeh in pot stickers, would you precook it before you mixed it into the rest of the filling?
(I've never eaten tempeh before.) :)

Yeah. I would just simmer/poach it in a bit of water for about 10 minutes, before cooking it with the other stuff.
Thanks AC! I've gotta try and make these things before my fresh wrappers go off, so... maybe today, maybe tomorrow. ;)b
