Comfort soup

I know many of us find soup a comfort food, in winter and especially when we're feeling run down/unwell.
I was feeling a little ordinary the last few days and made a Morrocan Chickpea Soup which basically consisted of chickpeas, tomatoes, lots of onions and garlic, veg stock and lot of spices cumin, coriander, turmeric, chilli, ginger, paprika, cinnamon etc and just the smell of it cooking on the stove made me feel much better :)
So I would like to know what are our Favourite Comfort Soups or Comfort Foods even?
I love squash & yesterday I made a Roasted Butternut Bisque from this site. It was so good. That reminds me, I need to review the recipe & post a picture ;)
i just made the best soup yesterday!!! They are usually clean out the fridge concoctions that are pretty hit or miss. Yesterday was a success. I cooked up an onion, some mushrooms, carrots, a little celery & garlic all diced real fine in a pan with olive oil. Then I cooked this all day in the crockpot with mushroom broth, tomato soup, various herbs and barley. When I got home I added some frozen mixed veggies, frozen okra, and edamame. Wow, it was so thick and creamy textured & the flavor was so good!!! I'm glad it made a lot because I'm goign to look forward to lunch every day now!
I'm a big fan of a tomato based soup with some already cooked pasta.
I like onion soup on a cold day
I've invented several soups since returning to vegetaria. This is one of my best:

I purely love it, with some miso mixed in at the table, especially when I'm tired and feel like I'm coming down with something. Soup is so comforting! I now follow the Spanish custom of mashing the bits into the broth with your spoon before eating it! Even executives in suits and ties do this. :)
I love this peanut ginger soup. It is such a delicious warm you up and make you feel good soup.

I make soup the way my mom always did. She calls it "kitchen sink" soup. She throws whatever in there that needs to be used up. Veggies, pasta, rice, meat or whatever.
Since becoming vegan, I omit the meat, and just use veggies and veggie broth with a kick (I use Old Bay seasoning). Let it simmer for about 30 minutes (depending on the veggies I use), and there ya go. It's warming and yummy on a cold day. Very comforting.
Last night, I made a vegan version of my mom's chili. She uses ground meat and pasta (yes, pasta). I used Boca ground burger, and no noodles, but everything else was the same .... I felt like a kid at home again .....

I love making chili too! The hotter and spicier the better. I swear I almost use a cup of chili powder and cumin. Plus jalapenos...yum! I might have to make some tomorrow.

My mother called this "accumulation soup." She always started with a little sauted onion, and as her base used home-canned tomato juice. Whatever there was, leftovers etc., got tossed in, the juice added and then she would throw in a handful of rice or noodles. It was always different and always good. Sometimes she would add a can of beans. It got better and better until it was all gone.
I eat out at "Sweet tomatoes" last weekend and they had the BEST vegetarian vegtable soup./..it had cilantro in it...I'm looking at their home page and I cant rememberer if it was vegetarian harvest soup or garden variety soup.....
IT WAS SOOOO GOOD! you can buy there soups to go... i think I shall...and I think Ill poke around about what else is in it so I can make it at home....or Ill just get job there for a few days and learn how to make it....hahahahaha
comfort food....for me is also a good chili...wee have a favorite family recipe that calls for beef and honey is the secret ingredient...I have not tried agave nectar yet...so i dunno if that would work in it...opps...I guess I'm not supposed to say the "secret" ingredient am I?
VHZ, if agave nectar isn't good, try brown rice syrup.
tamato, onion, and spinach soup. ;)

That's a cool name for it as well. Oh and I forgot to mention that I DO use tomato juice or a small can of tomato sauce, whatever I have at the time. So yea, definitely similar :)
I make several:
Potatoes, celery, carrots simmered in veggie broth with flat noodles (just like chicken soup, only why bother with the chicken?)
Pureed carrot and ginger soup.
Lentils and moroccan couscous with onions.
For a cold, kimchi soup-- cabbage, green onions, ginger, and a handful of chopped kimchi in unsalted broth. Will knock you naked because it's hot and sour, but the cold sure goes away!
I love my butternut squash soup. I make a big batch and freeze some. My mom is a wonderful cook and makes this delicious escarole soup (similar to italian wedding soup) at Christmas time. When I went veg I was disappointed I couldn't have it anymore. Now she makes a wonderful veggie version just for me with vegetable broth and little mini fake meatballs. I can't wait till Christmas so I can get my own batch of christmas soup. :)
Oh wait! You just reminded me of a Curried butternut squash soup I made once. I got the recipe from a local newspaper, veganized it, and it turned out yummy. I froze it in portions, so after a long day on the slopes, I just popped it in the microwave for a warm comforting meal. But I can't remember for the life of me where I put that recipe. Time to go look for it. Winter is coming ......
Just about any kind of soup (homemade, that is) with a hearty bread or Vegan Lunchbox cornbread is comfort food for me, winter AND summer. I just love, love, love soup. MMMMMM good. :)

Okay...its called "the garden of eatin' soup"
and in it there's: carrots, corn, kidney beans, black beans, tomato, sweet red onions, spinach, garlic, and chipoltle chili powder. I'm not letting any secrets out here---they list these ingredients right beside the soup. They make their soups from scratch daily and I swear the first time I had it I taste cilantro...So I think I shall make my version of the soup with cilantro cause it tasted better like that (even if it was ll in my head)
This soup is absolutely wonderful!
