Are you guys aware of chickpea tofu?
I had some at a Burmese restaurant today and it's fantastic. I think it just may be my new favorite thing ever.

I've never had it. It sounds yummy though
WANT. Where might one acquire such a thing (besides that restaurant)? I might have to make a special trip to my local Asian supermarket.
um. YUM! i want that.
Long time ago someone promised to research making alternate tofus but they disappeared. I still want someone to invent blackbean tofu.

well, i ended up googling chickpea tofu and it looked like people make it with chickpea flour. i don't know if black bean flour exists, but you (or someone) could always try it the way tofu is normally made. i feel like BP made tofu from scratch before.
^ hahaha. cute.
this sounds soooo good, i want too.
as do i!!!
Old thread!
Well, I was looking for a soy-free tofu on google and found this:

I made it once and liked it, but i'm not sure how it compares to real Tofu, since I've never tried it; the chick-fu I made was kind of fluffy after cooking it. It was easy to make, although slightly time consuming. :)

Oh man, thank you for the link!! :)>>> I googled a recipe for chickpea tofu many months back but they wanted you to make some insanely large quantity that I simply don't have the space to store etc. in my fridge. You could swing a cat in my kitchen, but it would have to be a very patient, longsuffering sort of cat.
Sorry, off topic, but I just had to say, permanentgrin, your baby is SOOOOOO cute!!!! My so was just as cute when he was younger, he is still cute but in a different way now. I miss the infant stage, they are so cute and adorable at that age!

Yeah, one of the other recipes called for like 15 cups of water, and then throwing out 6 cups of the thing before cooking, what a waste.
A word of advice, before you even consider making this stuff, I insist that you go to some hardware store and buy a whole tub of Elbow grease; making chickfu is KILLER on the arms!

EXERCISE AND FOOD! Lol! I think it would be worth all of the hard work just to try it out. Thanks for the link!
Who was the ultracool person who told the chickfu blogger to come to VW?? She has some great non-soy veg*n ideas so I hope she comes along!!
MonkeyMan, thanks for sharing the link! There is also a rice-fu version on the blog that I will try:
